[00:01:24] [SPEAKER_02]: in persons and families and towns and churches and countries and nations.
[00:01:31] [SPEAKER_01]: Every episode we bring you a different voice from history in a sermon that they delivered
[00:01:35] [SPEAKER_01]: today, we're listening to a Jonathan Edwards sermon.
[00:01:38] [SPEAKER_01]: It was preached in 1750 in Northampton, Massachusetts.
[00:01:45] [SPEAKER_01]: Troy, how is Elise with her broken foot?
[00:01:47] [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, for the, well everything's pretty good here.
[00:01:49] [SPEAKER_00]: If you guys remember, if you've been keeping up with us on our page following the phraseers
[00:01:55] [SPEAKER_00]: or you saw any of the alerts, at least broke her foot a few months ago.
[00:01:58] [SPEAKER_00]: And we had to make a trip to Singapore.
[00:02:00] [SPEAKER_00]: It was a big deal because healthcare is just difficult out here but
[00:02:03] [SPEAKER_00]: she is walking now without crutches.
[00:02:06] [SPEAKER_00]: It's not, she has to go easy on it if she's on it for too long or
[00:02:09] [SPEAKER_00]: her foot hurts.
[00:02:09] [SPEAKER_00]: But I mean that's been big so we're doing a lot better.
[00:02:12] [SPEAKER_00]: It is, I was telling Joel it's been tough to run the house
[00:02:16] [SPEAKER_00]: without the misses.
[00:02:17] [SPEAKER_00]: When you have kids, you know, you have two adults that are always putting 100%
[00:02:21] [SPEAKER_00]: it's, you know, you run the house runs pretty smooth and there be days
[00:02:24] [SPEAKER_00]: where you do more, they do more when it's not a big deal.
[00:02:26] [SPEAKER_00]: Everything's still work but when it's only one person.
[00:02:29] [SPEAKER_00]: And the other person who's on crutches needs you to do everything.
[00:02:32] [SPEAKER_00]: You know, saying it's like not that I'm mad or nothing like that but it was just
[00:02:35] [SPEAKER_00]: it was a lot.
[00:02:36] [SPEAKER_00]: It was very tired and so having her start to, okay she's, you know,
[00:02:39] [SPEAKER_00]: she's cooking dinners and she's doing stuff again and she's,
[00:02:42] [SPEAKER_00]: she's got this energy now because she's back at her feet.
[00:02:44] [SPEAKER_00]: She can finally like actually do stuff.
[00:02:46] [SPEAKER_00]: It's been like, whoo!
[00:02:47] [SPEAKER_00]: Okay we made it.
[00:02:48] [SPEAKER_00]: Like we're not even going to be that kind of work.
[00:02:49] [SPEAKER_00]: You went there to start.
[00:02:51] [SPEAKER_00]: Exactly.
[00:02:52] [SPEAKER_00]: So I, not that that's the only reason I'm happy.
[00:02:54] [SPEAKER_00]: Obviously I'm happy my wife is walking stuff but just from a very personal
[00:02:56] [SPEAKER_00]: tired standpoint.
[00:02:57] [SPEAKER_00]: I'm like, okay, I can start to rest.
[00:02:59] [SPEAKER_00]: I don't have to, don't have to hold it all down anymore and that's been really
[00:03:02] [SPEAKER_00]: really good to be able to do that.
[00:03:05] [SPEAKER_01]: That's so fun.
[00:03:05] [SPEAKER_01]: I can relate to that so well like whenever my wife gets sick or something like that
[00:03:09] [SPEAKER_01]: or just yeah, and we have two kids is the thing.
[00:03:13] [SPEAKER_01]: Like it's not like there's so many other people.
[00:03:17] [SPEAKER_01]: Like four or five kids like, I don't understand how it's physically possible
[00:03:22] [SPEAKER_01]: when two kids seem seem like such a, such a handful but,
[00:03:28] [SPEAKER_01]: but the eight, the eight, the eight people do it out there.
[00:03:31] [SPEAKER_00]: I am glad that my wife had a, a shed of her foot that we have only two children
[00:03:35] [SPEAKER_00]: to take care of and not like six because that I think that would have been,
[00:03:39] [SPEAKER_00]: that would have been a maybe a bridge too far.
[00:03:41] [SPEAKER_00]: Joel, how's things going over there for you in America?
[00:03:44] [SPEAKER_01]: Things are going great in America for the most.
[00:03:46] [SPEAKER_01]: I mean, that's, that you got to grow it on a spectrum.
[00:03:50] [SPEAKER_01]: Things things are, hey, here in America.
[00:03:52] [SPEAKER_01]: Things are kind of crazy.
[00:03:53] [SPEAKER_01]: This political season seems kind of crazy.
[00:03:56] [SPEAKER_01]: We'll see, we'll see what happens of it.
[00:03:58] [SPEAKER_00]: This is my second time seeing Donald Trump run for president while living in a different country
[00:04:05] [SPEAKER_00]: and the first time we did that was while we were living in China
[00:04:08] [SPEAKER_00]: and this time we're doing it while living in Indonesia.
[00:04:12] [SPEAKER_00]: And I got to say, I'm always really glad to be living in a different country
[00:04:15] [SPEAKER_00]: while America is going through an election season.
[00:04:18] [SPEAKER_00]: You know, I miss everybody, I miss the families, I miss every, I miss so many things
[00:04:22] [SPEAKER_00]: but, but I don't miss the drama that can be embroiled in politics and all of that stuff
[00:04:27] [SPEAKER_00]: or that all of that, that excitement is, that, that is one part where it's like,
[00:04:31] [SPEAKER_00]: wow, everything's crazy and I shut my knees up and I go back to living over here.
[00:04:34] [SPEAKER_00]: But we did have to, we do actually have to deal with election seasons too
[00:04:37] [SPEAKER_00]: and they can also be quite intense.
[00:04:40] [SPEAKER_00]: People have, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it look up out in Indonesia
[00:04:43] [SPEAKER_00]: does election seasons and you can see that it can actually be quite, quite an ordeal
[00:04:46] [SPEAKER_00]: so that's the other flip side of it is your, you're, you have election season drama
[00:04:51] [SPEAKER_00]: that happens here and you don't, because you don't, you know, you don't,
[00:04:54] [SPEAKER_00]: this isn't your culture and stuff. You don't actually fully understand it
[00:04:57] [SPEAKER_00]: so you kind of like, I hope everything's okay.
[00:04:59] [SPEAKER_00]: I don't know what's happening.
[00:05:00] [SPEAKER_00]: No matter where you are in the world, it's just, you know, people people, people take that
[00:05:05] [SPEAKER_00]: pretty seriously and I think I understand why.
[00:05:08] [SPEAKER_00]: Speaking of taking things pretty seriously, we're going to jump into this episode
[00:05:10] [SPEAKER_00]: but before we do, let us look at some reviews and the first review I would like to
[00:05:16] [SPEAKER_00]: look at is from Ellen, this one came over to us from Podbean.
[00:05:20] [SPEAKER_00]: She said, this is of our, our joles and my recent revived conversation on
[00:05:25] [SPEAKER_00]: at the Axiv uniform uniformity.
[00:05:27] [SPEAKER_00]: We're going to happen again today and she said, interesting and challenging
[00:05:31] [SPEAKER_00]: discussion, which is very applicable to our lives today. Nice illustrations from a
[00:05:35] [SPEAKER_00]: personal, I thank you Ellen. Another person message me on Twitter or ex and his name is
[00:05:41] [SPEAKER_00]: Jeff and he said, since you probably will get negative feedback for today's episode
[00:05:44] [SPEAKER_00]: or yesterday's for you, I wanted to let you know, I loved it.
[00:05:47] [SPEAKER_00]: I had never thought about that pattern before in which guys who compromise for impact
[00:05:51] [SPEAKER_00]: are forgotten. It was encouraging for me, love you guys.
[00:05:54] [SPEAKER_00]: And I will say actually I was a little nervous. We enjoy a few listen that
[00:05:57] [SPEAKER_00]: about conversation we talked about. COVID, we talked about what I mean was a pretty intense
[00:06:01] [SPEAKER_00]: episode of discussion and you always get nervous but you guys are a, you, you listening
[00:06:06] [SPEAKER_00]: are a wonderful audience. I, I feel like you appreciate that we talk about these things
[00:06:12] [SPEAKER_00]: and I, I don't think we've ever gotten the bad review for just going, giving our opinions
[00:06:18] [SPEAKER_00]: and discussing it and I, yeah, people will send me say, I disagree with you, but it
[00:06:22] [SPEAKER_00]: just always seems to be done out of love. So you guys are all wonderful people and so far
[00:06:26] [SPEAKER_00]: no one has given us a heart. We've had, yes, in the past we've had emails coming to
[00:06:30] [SPEAKER_00]: some of that, that weren't always nice but generally speaking I would say everyone
[00:06:35] [SPEAKER_00]: seems to be able to handle it which is awesome. And this one makes our listeners
[00:06:38] [SPEAKER_01]: the best and our kind of ecosystem here that we've created the best is that
[00:06:43] [SPEAKER_01]: it, hopefully that's what joy and I wanted to do is kind of approach things in a way
[00:06:48] [SPEAKER_01]: that we could kind of chat about things and we knew. I mean there's, there's no
[00:06:52] [SPEAKER_01]: way physically possible to talk about these things without being in a room with people
[00:06:58] [SPEAKER_01]: that share different opinions and thoughts on certain topics. But yet, I don't know,
[00:07:04] [SPEAKER_01]: I think there's a little bit of, uh, I, I pride is not the right word. The
[00:07:09] [SPEAKER_01]: little bit of a, uh, sense of accomplishment I feel like trying to have a little bit
[00:07:14] [SPEAKER_01]: of a word is like look at this. We're, we're talking and we're not, we're not getting
[00:07:18] [SPEAKER_01]: a review bomb to death like we're, we're, yeah it's exciting and it's neat to
[00:07:24] [SPEAKER_01]: be able to have an environment like this where it's increasingly more rare
[00:07:29] [SPEAKER_00]: everyday in our sense of internet. Yeah. I don't, I'm like, I'm genuinely, I'm sure
[00:07:35] [SPEAKER_00]: there are but I don't know of a whole lot of other episode podcasts
[00:07:39] [SPEAKER_00]: shows that was talk about things like submission to authority, talk about things like
[00:07:42] [SPEAKER_00]: Christian conference charging, we'll talk about things like, I mean we go all over
[00:07:46] [SPEAKER_00]: the spectrum, we hit, we persecution of the church like we go to some pretty
[00:07:49] [SPEAKER_00]: controversial things and that doesn't even include the controversial stuff like, you know,
[00:07:53] [SPEAKER_00]: Jonathan Edward Doningslades are those kind of things I come up to. And yet our audience,
[00:07:58] [SPEAKER_00]: you, you who are listening right now, you've never really come after us. Like this
[00:08:01] [SPEAKER_00]: always been just a place of talking and everyone seems free to disagree. I do
[00:08:06] [SPEAKER_00]: think it's extremely unique to have two Christians who don't agree on everything
[00:08:11] [SPEAKER_00]: sharing those disagreements going back and forth and then just kind of putting
[00:08:15] [SPEAKER_00]: out there and saying, hey everybody what do you think and everyone just being like, hey I
[00:08:18] [SPEAKER_00]: agreed with you on this but not this and we're all good afterwards. It is, it is
[00:08:22] [SPEAKER_00]: really nice and I, I, I appreciate that that's what we have going on here and so yeah
[00:08:27] [SPEAKER_00]: no, we, I, to all that say Jeff, I loved your message but I am really grateful
[00:08:31] [SPEAKER_00]: that we don't, we don't seem to have that kind of audience that's going to
[00:08:34] [SPEAKER_00]: fire off the angry email as soon as we step out a line or say something someone
[00:08:38] [SPEAKER_00]: disagrees with and I, I love that. Maybe just history people are just generally
[00:08:41] [SPEAKER_00]: more chill people I'm not sure but last time I went to Rios from Spotify,
[00:08:44] [SPEAKER_00]: Reggie says I am studying sinners in the hands of an angry god for literature and this
[00:08:48] [SPEAKER_00]: was so amazing and Reggie, in case you're not wondering audience they were listening to
[00:08:53] [SPEAKER_00]: our episode by Jonathan Edwards on sinners in the hands of an angry god.
[00:08:56] [SPEAKER_00]: That one just came in about a week ago but I was like hey that seems like the
[00:08:59] [SPEAKER_00]: perfect comment to put on an episode which Jonathan Edwards which I knew is coming
[00:09:03] [SPEAKER_01]: out. That's right. It's right Jonathan Edwards probably is known by everybody
[00:09:09] [SPEAKER_01]: all of our listeners if you're listening to R5 thoughts you probably have Jonathan
[00:09:13] [SPEAKER_01]: Edwards on your radar. We've done a few sermons by him. His most famous obviously
[00:09:17] [SPEAKER_01]: being the sinners in the hands of an angry god which we've done in the past
[00:09:21] [SPEAKER_01]: today we're doing what Troy has titled a farewell sermon.
[00:09:26] [SPEAKER_01]: We'll jump into that here but we're going back to pre-revolutionary
[00:09:31] [SPEAKER_01]: war America so colonial America, this is before America became America as we knew it
[00:09:36] [SPEAKER_01]: and Edwards was very well read gentlemen of very educated first and went to jail
[00:09:45] [SPEAKER_01]: and then went to go study at his grandfather's church. Solomon's
[00:09:49] [SPEAKER_01]: daughter's church and there's daughter's daughter by the way jump it in here.
[00:09:55] [SPEAKER_00]: We actually have an episode of his coming out soon. He's not super you know you don't
[00:09:58] [SPEAKER_00]: normally hear about John that Edward. He's not really important guy actually
[00:10:04] [SPEAKER_00]: well especially if you're in colonial America I'm really excited for him.
[00:10:07] [SPEAKER_00]: Everyone comes out. Thank you for the tea is for I put it.
[00:10:11] [SPEAKER_01]: People's right are well so so while Stodder while his grandfather brought him in
[00:10:18] [SPEAKER_01]: his head you know kind of the church didn't give him a hope but right away
[00:10:22] [SPEAKER_01]: the head I don't know if this was like a requirement I get the sins that
[00:10:25] [SPEAKER_01]: started one of them to study more and prove more so for multiple years
[00:10:31] [SPEAKER_01]: Edward's would study 10 hours a day every day to the point where his grandfather
[00:10:38] [SPEAKER_01]: eventually you know was satisfied with his level of education and handed in
[00:10:43] [SPEAKER_01]: the pulpit so he was someone that's determined and wanted to make sure
[00:10:49] [SPEAKER_01]: that he was able to understand things and study things during this time in
[00:10:55] [SPEAKER_01]: the world really fiery sermons were popular were all the rage this is
[00:11:00] [SPEAKER_01]: contemporary to cotton mayther which we've also covered on him cotton mayther
[00:11:04] [SPEAKER_01]: also has a very fiery sermon type of a delivery here. Edward's was
[00:11:09] [SPEAKER_01]: particularly good at this he had that kind of delivery on point and so things
[00:11:14] [SPEAKER_01]: are kind of culminating there's revivals that are starting to sweep across
[00:11:19] [SPEAKER_01]: England and Jonathan Edwards was kind of right at the helm of all this that's
[00:11:25] [SPEAKER_00]: unfolding going down. Now all of this was going great for Edward's until I don't
[00:11:32] [SPEAKER_00]: have say until it wasn't and it wow John the Edwards was preaching at this
[00:11:38] [SPEAKER_00]: church his uncle was a member but his uncle committed suicide and basically
[00:11:44] [SPEAKER_00]: the way Edward's took it was his uncle was listening to the preaching of John
[00:11:49] [SPEAKER_00]: that Edwards listening to that fiery sermon and was just you know I'm never going
[00:11:52] [SPEAKER_00]: to I don't think I'm going to ever be that confident I'm walking with God
[00:11:56] [SPEAKER_00]: I'm worried I'm going to go to that hell that Edward's is preaching of and so
[00:11:59] [SPEAKER_00]: I'm just going to kill myself now because this where I'm headed and not long after
[00:12:03] [SPEAKER_00]: like within a couple weeks another congregate did as well and this really
[00:12:08] [SPEAKER_00]: crushed I mean Edward's and who wouldn't it crushed I think this would be
[00:12:11] [SPEAKER_00]: something it would be extremely hard for anybody and it really just kind of took away
[00:12:16] [SPEAKER_00]: that passion took away that fire knocked him down for about a year or so where he
[00:12:21] [SPEAKER_00]: just kind of gave tame sermons and didn't want to push the envelope anymore
[00:12:24] [SPEAKER_00]: and just I seem to me that nearly drove him out of ministry when the very famous
[00:12:31] [SPEAKER_00]: evangelist George Whitfield whom we've also covered on the show I'm just put that
[00:12:35] [SPEAKER_00]: on everybody's name as we go but anyway very important member of church history
[00:12:39] [SPEAKER_00]: and he heard about the revival that was happening in the New England he was an
[00:12:43] [SPEAKER_00]: England at the time he heard there were some trouble and so he said I got to get
[00:12:46] [SPEAKER_00]: over there and help everybody out New England he comes to Edwards's church
[00:12:49] [SPEAKER_00]: and he preaches a fiery passionate evangelistic sermon and according to the story
[00:12:55] [SPEAKER_00]: at least Edward's just was in the front row weeping as he heard this and it
[00:13:00] [SPEAKER_00]: just kind of gave him that energy gave him that zeal back to him again
[00:13:04] [SPEAKER_00]: and he was suddenly ready to do it and get back into it so then he gets into it
[00:13:08] [SPEAKER_00]: and that's this is the season when the real revival the real revival which will
[00:13:12] [SPEAKER_00]: be known as the great awakening just starts to really blossom on both sides of the
[00:13:17] [SPEAKER_00]: Atlantic in England John Wesley Charles Wesley and George Whitfield will be there
[00:13:20] [SPEAKER_00]: and then over in New England people like Jonathan Edwards and George Whitfield
[00:13:24] [SPEAKER_00]: who's traveling back and forth will be present as well.
[00:13:27] [SPEAKER_00]: And this is the season when Edwards will give his famous sinners in the hands of an
[00:13:31] [SPEAKER_00]: angry god if you haven't listened to that sermon you really should.
[00:13:34] [SPEAKER_00]: Now not everyone likes that sermon some people think it's too intense
[00:13:37] [SPEAKER_00]: so I always tell them to balance it out if you if you have a problem with sinners
[00:13:40] [SPEAKER_00]: I think personally sinners in hands of an angry god is very convicting and good
[00:13:43] [SPEAKER_00]: reminder that everyone has a soul and there's a there's a destination for that soul
[00:13:47] [SPEAKER_00]: someday but the flip side of it is we've also covered a sermon by Edwards
[00:13:51] [SPEAKER_00]: it's called we call it heaven or something like love isn't the place
[00:13:55] [SPEAKER_00]: I've never had a word but just go find this heaven and then the
[00:14:00] [SPEAKER_00]: Revive thoughts catalog where where just like in sinners in hands of an angry god
[00:14:03] [SPEAKER_00]: Edwards's famous for describing hell heaven is where he describes heaven and it's
[00:14:08] [SPEAKER_00]: just I think it's just as enriching and just as beautiful of a description
[00:14:12] [SPEAKER_00]: as his one of hell and I think it really balances him out you know I have students
[00:14:17] [SPEAKER_00]: actually who for class have to read that sermon and some of them get the
[00:14:20] [SPEAKER_00]: pressing oh man I just feel like he's too tough and I use that sermon
[00:14:23] [SPEAKER_00]: I say well have you seen his reading of heaven and they just when they read
[00:14:25] [SPEAKER_00]: that they go I feel so much better so Edwards is more than just the
[00:14:29] [SPEAKER_00]: hell side of him he also had the heaven side of him as well
[00:14:32] [SPEAKER_00]: great awakening is sweeping everywhere though and during this time he
[00:14:36] [SPEAKER_00]: will also publish a missionary journal by David Brainer and it's not
[00:14:40] [SPEAKER_00]: super well known today people don't know the diary of David Brainer
[00:14:43] [SPEAKER_00]: as much as they but if you lived at the time of all the things his
[00:14:47] [SPEAKER_00]: sermons his theology books all the things that Jonathan Edwards did
[00:14:49] [SPEAKER_00]: it would be that book which he sold the most copies of that would have been
[00:14:53] [SPEAKER_00]: the most likely book you would have owned of his and that book quite literally
[00:14:57] [SPEAKER_00]: changed the world John Wesley made it required reading for his
[00:14:59] [SPEAKER_00]: Methodist ministers several several missionaries ad nire
[00:15:04] [SPEAKER_00]: judson and Hudson Taylor and people like that would point to that book
[00:15:07] [SPEAKER_00]: as one of the main reasons they got into missions in the first place
[00:15:10] [SPEAKER_00]: as hell nettle ten who helped be it was incredibly important
[00:15:13] [SPEAKER_00]: member of the second grade awakening said that book help become a
[00:15:16] [SPEAKER_00]: Christian I just this one book that he published just it's impossible
[00:15:21] [SPEAKER_00]: to truly explain the impact of it but we did try to own of our episode
[00:15:25] [SPEAKER_00]: so just go through the john of the dead were to category category go
[00:15:28] [SPEAKER_00]: to revive thoughts hit the search part but john of the dead were to list
[00:15:31] [SPEAKER_00]: them all out and you'll have a lot of good stuff to go through
[00:15:34] [SPEAKER_01]: so he had been a preacher at his grandfather's church for years and things
[00:15:38] [SPEAKER_01]: are going great they're going through the great awakening together
[00:15:43] [SPEAKER_01]: one day Edward is is walking around and he caught some young men that
[00:15:48] [SPEAKER_01]: were uh... augling in a anatomy book that had you know women figures
[00:15:55] [SPEAKER_01]: drawn in it for the anatomy book but of course these teenage boys
[00:16:00] [SPEAKER_01]: we're making these these vulgar crude comments about the drawings that
[00:16:04] [SPEAKER_01]: were in their edwards took great exception to this he was very
[00:16:10] [SPEAKER_01]: offended he thought it was wildly inappropriate and he wanted some
[00:16:13] [SPEAKER_01]: disciplinary action these were teenagers that were part of his church part of
[00:16:18] [SPEAKER_01]: his church and so he wanted some type of apology repentance of this
[00:16:25] [SPEAKER_01]: this infallion that these kids were doing the boys happened to be the
[00:16:30] [SPEAKER_01]: sons of some elders that were in the church and they you know they thought
[00:16:35] [SPEAKER_01]: Edward was kind of being harsh on the kids you know they don't need to be
[00:16:38] [SPEAKER_01]: publicly embarrassed because of uh... the situation they didn't think it was
[00:16:47] [SPEAKER_01]: in controversy that's going to affect Edward's life is it is shared here
[00:16:52] [SPEAKER_00]: Edward insisted that they needed to and this would have to be a big issue
[00:16:56] [SPEAKER_00]: they need some public there seems to be a pen to something needs to happen
[00:16:59] [SPEAKER_00]: no one would butge and so Edward decided to not give these people
[00:17:03] [SPEAKER_00]: community saw it as hate not if they are not in any kind of former
[00:17:07] [SPEAKER_00]: pen to buy would i get them community and they're not showing signs of being
[00:17:10] [SPEAKER_00]: Christians and the elders attacked him and said hey you're what are you one of
[00:17:14] [SPEAKER_00]: the signs they use what you can read souls you can read minds you know who's
[00:17:17] [SPEAKER_00]: Christian is not and the elders got mad at Edward's for continuing to be
[00:17:21] [SPEAKER_00]: strong on this so they also would not butge and this battle really went on for about a year
[00:17:26] [SPEAKER_00]: the same year that he was publishing David brainer journal was the same exact year
[00:17:30] [SPEAKER_00]: this gigantic battle with his church was going down
[00:17:33] [SPEAKER_00]: his church would almost always be full of people who are visiting
[00:17:37] [SPEAKER_00]: to listen to him preach but most hardly anybody from his congregation
[00:17:41] [SPEAKER_00]: was actually there to hear the preaching so he would preach to full audiences
[00:17:46] [SPEAKER_00]: and everyone go home they wouldn't actually live in town they were just traveling
[00:17:49] [SPEAKER_00]: through and visiting and they heard the famous John the Edwards was there
[00:17:53] [SPEAKER_00]: and then they go home and none of his actual congregants were showing up at church
[00:17:57] [SPEAKER_00]: finally the church publicly announced that we want to Edward's out we're kicking
[00:18:01] [SPEAKER_00]: them out we need a get rid of them and this leads to this farewell sermon here
[00:18:06] [SPEAKER_00]: about to hear us at words has been told by his church where done with you
[00:18:10] [SPEAKER_00]: or we don't want you any more the elders are removing you and so this is Edward's
[00:18:14] [SPEAKER_00]: giving the farewell sermon that that priest pre
[00:18:18] [SPEAKER_00]: will follow that him leaving which I mean that in itself is you can only imagine the amount of emotion behind that
[00:18:42] [SPEAKER_03]: this platform Shopee Fire evolved to meet millions of people from the world
[00:18:45] [SPEAKER_03]: with Shopee Fire right in the online shop
[00:18:49] [SPEAKER_03]: a lot of programs or design-cantons

[00:18:57] [SPEAKER_03]: integration can you over Instagram, eBay and Co. Verben and Verkaufen
[00:19:02] [SPEAKER_03]: new companies were still not so easy
[00:19:05] [SPEAKER_03]: Shopee Fire beat up a single-seeker platform all the tools to build your online business
[00:19:10] [SPEAKER_03]: to build your online business.
[00:19:15] [SPEAKER_03]: Shopee Fire.de is a real try to be seen
[00:19:18] [SPEAKER_03]: a few Shopee Fire.de is a real try and give and close-ling
[00:19:22] [SPEAKER_03]: mate for Germany powered by Shopee Fire
[00:19:30] [SPEAKER_01]: and Edward's talks about it
[00:19:33] [SPEAKER_01]: it's dark like he was very he was very broken up he was very sad by he's very crushed by this
[00:19:39] [SPEAKER_01]: was you know the church that he grew up in it where he studied that
[00:19:44] [SPEAKER_01]: where he preached that where him and his grandfather
[00:19:46] [SPEAKER_01]: you know jump started this great awakening that was there was a huge formative part of his life
[00:19:52] [SPEAKER_01]: into the departing that now
[00:19:55] [SPEAKER_01]: was very difficult for him is very sad for him
[00:19:58] [SPEAKER_01]: but I think it's you put yourself in your shoes it would seem like that would be
[00:20:03] [SPEAKER_01]: the whole momentum of life you know was up to that point
[00:20:07] [SPEAKER_01]: and now you were stepping out into the unknown
[00:20:10] [SPEAKER_01]: and I can imagine somewhat of the uncertainty or fear or pointlessness of going on
[00:20:18] [SPEAKER_01]: but in retrospect we have the hindsight to look back and say like this was actually
[00:20:24] [SPEAKER_01]: not even near the end of Edward's is ministry
[00:20:28] [SPEAKER_01]: like he went on to do a lot more and he went eventually shift the gears to go
[00:20:33] [SPEAKER_01]: do something he wanted to do for a long time which was minister to people out in the front
[00:20:37] [SPEAKER_01]: here he went out west out reach to native americans and front here people that were living out there
[00:20:43] [SPEAKER_01]: and that's where a lot of some of his biggest work comes from later in his life
[00:20:48] [SPEAKER_01]: he could have ministered to big cities and state in the big cities
[00:20:51] [SPEAKER_01]: but he saw an opportunity to evangelize to the lost
[00:20:55] [SPEAKER_01]: and so he went out west in champion to a different type of ministry that needed to happen
[00:21:00] [SPEAKER_01]: which was also the very thing that brainer had done as well
[00:21:18] [SPEAKER_02]: as you have also acknowledged us in part
[00:21:22] [SPEAKER_02]: that we are your rejoicing
[00:21:25] [SPEAKER_02]: even as you also are ours in the day of the Lord Jesus
[00:21:31] [SPEAKER_02]: second Corinthians 14
[00:21:34] [SPEAKER_02]: ministers and people that are under their care must meet one another before Christ's tribunal
[00:21:42] [SPEAKER_02]: on the day of judgment
[00:21:44] [SPEAKER_02]: the apostle in the preceding part of this chapter declares what great troubles he met
[00:21:51] [SPEAKER_02]: in the course of his ministry in this text and then the two previous verses
[00:21:57] [SPEAKER_02]: he explained what comforted him during these troubles
[00:22:02] [SPEAKER_02]: first that he had approved himself to his own conscience
[00:22:07] [SPEAKER_02]: verse 12 for our boast is this the testimony of our conscience that we behaved in the world with simplicity
[00:22:17] [SPEAKER_02]: and godly sincerity not by earthly wisdom but by the grace of God and supremely so toward you
[00:22:27] [SPEAKER_02]: another thing he speaks of as a matter of comfort is that as he had approved himself
[00:22:35] [SPEAKER_02]: to his own conscience so he had also to the consciences of his hears the Corinthians
[00:22:42] [SPEAKER_02]: to whom he was writing the third hope he had was of seeing the blessed fruit of his
[00:22:50] [SPEAKER_02]: labors and sufferings in the ministry in their happiness and glory on that great day of accounts
[00:22:58] [SPEAKER_02]: lastly in his ministry among the Corinthians he had approved himself to his judge
[00:23:06] [SPEAKER_02]: who would approve and reward his faithfulness on that day
[00:23:12] [SPEAKER_02]: it is implied that the Corinthians had acknowledged him as their spiritual father
[00:23:19] [SPEAKER_02]: and as one that had been faithful among them
[00:23:24] [SPEAKER_02]: it is implied that the apostle expected at that time to have a joyful meeting with them before the judge
[00:23:35] [SPEAKER_02]: in all of this there is one thing I want to highlight from the text
[00:23:40] [SPEAKER_02]: ministers and the people that have been under their care must meet one another before Christ
[00:23:50] [SPEAKER_02]: tribunal at the day of judgment ministers and the people that have been under their care
[00:23:58] [SPEAKER_02]: must be parted in this world regardless of how close they once were in unity they will some day
[00:24:07] [SPEAKER_02]: be separated if they are not separated before they must be parted then by death
[00:24:14] [SPEAKER_02]: we live in a world of change where nothing is certain or stable and where in just a little
[00:24:21] [SPEAKER_02]: time a few revolutions the sun brings unexpected things to pass
[00:24:27] [SPEAKER_02]: surprising king's in persons and families and towns and churches and countries and
[00:24:34] [SPEAKER_02]: nations it often happens that those who want seemed most united in a little time are most
[00:24:42] [SPEAKER_02]: disunited and now at the greatest distance so ministers and people between whom there has been
[00:24:51] [SPEAKER_02]: the greatest mutual regard may not only differ in their judgments and be alienated in love
[00:24:58] [SPEAKER_02]: but one may end up torn from the other and their relationship completely dissolved
[00:25:06] [SPEAKER_02]: the minister may be moved to a distant place far away and they may never again have anything
[00:25:14] [SPEAKER_02]: to do with one another in this world but if it is so there is one more meeting that they must
[00:25:22] [SPEAKER_02]: have and that is on the last great day of accounts so let us look at the matter of that day of meeting
[00:25:33] [SPEAKER_02]: first they will not meet on the day merely as all the world must then meet together
[00:25:41] [SPEAKER_02]: the whole world will then be present all mankind of all generations gathered in one vast assembly
[00:25:49] [SPEAKER_02]: and with all of the angelic hosts both elect and even fallen angels but we don't imagine that everyone
[00:25:58] [SPEAKER_02]: will have a distinct knowledge of each individual of the whole assembled multitude which will
[00:26:03] [SPEAKER_02]: consist of many millions of millions though it is probable that men's abilities will be much greater than in their
[00:26:12] [SPEAKER_02]: current state yet they won't be infinite. Though their understanding and comprehension
[00:26:18] [SPEAKER_02]: will vastly grow yet men won't become unnishant there will be special reasons why those who have had special
[00:26:28] [SPEAKER_02]: relationships together in this world should be set within one another's view. We may imagine that rulers and subjects
[00:26:37] [SPEAKER_02]: earthly judges and those whom they have judged neighbors who have had mutual conversations and interactions
[00:26:45] [SPEAKER_02]: heads of families and their children and servant will then be together in specific distinctions
[00:26:53] [SPEAKER_02]: and this seems especially so with ministers and their people. It is evident by the text that they will be in each other's view
[00:27:04] [SPEAKER_02]: they will meet together as having special concern with one another in that great in the great transactions of that day
[00:27:15] [SPEAKER_02]: second their meeting on the day of judgment will be very different from their meetings with each other in this world
[00:27:23] [SPEAKER_02]: ministers and their people while their relationship continues often meet together in this world
[00:27:29] [SPEAKER_02]: they go to meet from Sabbath to Sabbath and at other times for the public worship of God and administration of duties
[00:27:39] [SPEAKER_02]: and the solemn services of God's house. But their meetings at the day of judgment will be very different
[00:27:47] [SPEAKER_02]: for right now they meet together in a changeable state but then in an unchangeable state.
[00:27:55] [SPEAKER_02]: Now sinners in the congregation must meet their ministers in a state in which they are capable of a saving change
[00:28:04] [SPEAKER_02]: capable of being turned away from the power of Satan and turn to God
[00:28:10] [SPEAKER_02]: and being brought out of state of guilt, combination and wrath to a state of peace and favor with God
[00:28:19] [SPEAKER_02]: and saints now meet their ministers still as those corrupted and sometimes under great spiritual difficulties and affliction
[00:28:29] [SPEAKER_02]: ministers and their people meet now in order to bring about happy changes for the future
[00:28:37] [SPEAKER_02]: but when they meet together on the day of judgment it will be completely different
[00:28:43] [SPEAKER_02]: they will all meet in an unchangeable state.
[00:28:47] [SPEAKER_02]: sinners will be in an unchangeable state those who will be under the guilt and power of sin and have the wrath of God
[00:28:57] [SPEAKER_02]: abiding on them will be beyond all remedy or possibility you can't
[00:29:04] [SPEAKER_02]: and will meet their ministers without any hope of relief or remedy. And as for the saints they will already
[00:29:14] [SPEAKER_02]: perfectly delivered from all their corruption, temptation and calamities of every kind
[00:29:22] [SPEAKER_02]: and no work, no happy alteration will remain to be accomplished by their ministers
[00:29:30] [SPEAKER_02]: it will then be pronounced he that is unjust let him be unjust still and he that is filthy let him be filthy still
[00:29:41] [SPEAKER_02]: and he that is righteous let him be righteous still and he that is holy let him be holy still
[00:29:49] [SPEAKER_02]: for then they will meet together in a state of clear certain and infallible light
[00:29:57] [SPEAKER_02]: ministers are represented in scripture as lights set up in churches. In the present state they meet their people from time to time
[00:30:07] [SPEAKER_02]: in order to instruct and enlighten them to correct their mistakes and to be a voice behind them when they turn aside to the right hand or the left
[00:30:17] [SPEAKER_02]: saying this is the way
[00:30:20] [SPEAKER_02]: the people of the world walk it ministers are to prove and confirm the truth and give evidence for it
[00:30:28] [SPEAKER_02]: they refute errors and corrupt opinions to convince the wrong and establish the doubting
[00:30:36] [SPEAKER_02]: but when Christ will come to judgment every error and false opinion will be detected
[00:30:43] [SPEAKER_02]: all deceit and delusion will vanish before the light of that day as the darkness of the night vanishes at the appearance of the rising sun
[00:30:55] [SPEAKER_02]: every doctrine of the word of God will then appear in full display and none will remain unconvinced
[00:31:05] [SPEAKER_02]: all will know the truth with the greatest certainty and there will be no mistakes left
[00:31:13] [SPEAKER_02]: today ministers in their people may disagree in their judgments concerning some matters of religion
[00:31:19] [SPEAKER_02]: and may sometimes meet together concerning those things which they disagreed over
[00:31:25] [SPEAKER_02]: and to listen to the reasons that may be offered on one side and the other
[00:31:30] [SPEAKER_02]: and all of this may be ineffective as to any understanding of the truth
[00:31:36] [SPEAKER_02]: they may meet and part again no more agreeable than before
[00:31:42] [SPEAKER_02]: and that side which was in the wrong may remain so
[00:31:46] [SPEAKER_02]: sometimes the meeting of ministers and their people in such a case of disagreeing sediments
[00:31:53] [SPEAKER_02]: are attended with unhappy debate and controversy managed with much prejudice and lack of love
[00:32:02] [SPEAKER_02]: instead of tending to light and truth these meetings lead to increased darkness
[00:32:09] [SPEAKER_02]: they establish opposition to the truth and take away their love
[00:32:15] [SPEAKER_02]: but when they meet together on the day of judgment before the tribunal of the great judge
[00:32:21] [SPEAKER_02]: the mind and will of Christ will be made known and there will no longer be any debate or difference of opinions
[00:32:31] [SPEAKER_02]: the evidence of the truth will appear beyond all doubts and all controversies will be final and forever decided
[00:32:41] [SPEAKER_02]: now ministers meet their people in order to enlighten and awaken their consciousness of sinners
[00:32:49] [SPEAKER_02]: but set before them the great evil and danger of sin and the stricness of God's law
[00:32:57] [SPEAKER_02]: and their own wickedness of heart and practice
[00:33:01] [SPEAKER_02]: they show them the great guilt they are under the wrath that abides upon them
[00:33:08] [SPEAKER_02]: and their weakness blindness, poverty and helplessness
[00:33:14] [SPEAKER_02]: but all of it is often in vain they remain unmoved stupid and unawakened
[00:33:23] [SPEAKER_02]: and their conscience is unconvinced despite all their ministers say to them
[00:33:31] [SPEAKER_02]: but it will not be so at their last meeting on the day of judgment
[00:33:38] [SPEAKER_02]: sinners will meet their minister before their great judge will not meet him with an asleep conscience
[00:33:47] [SPEAKER_02]: they will then be convinced of the truth of those things which a formally heard from their minister
[00:33:55] [SPEAKER_02]: concerning the great majesty of God, his holiness and his hatred of sin
[00:34:00] [SPEAKER_02]: and they will never be unaware of these things again
[00:34:05] [SPEAKER_02]: the eyes of conscience will now be fully enlightened and never will be blinded again
[00:34:15] [SPEAKER_02]: but ministers are not infallible in discernment of the state of their people
[00:34:21] [SPEAKER_02]: at the most skillful of them are liable to make mistakes
[00:34:26] [SPEAKER_02]: and often armestaken in the things of this nature
[00:34:30] [SPEAKER_02]: nor are the people able certainly to know the state of their own minister
[00:34:34] [SPEAKER_02]: or one another's true state before God
[00:34:38] [SPEAKER_02]: very often those who pass among them for saints
[00:34:41] [SPEAKER_02]: and it may seem they are truly eminent saints
[00:34:44] [SPEAKER_02]: but they are actually great hypocrites inside
[00:34:48] [SPEAKER_02]: and on the other hand those who are sometimes repressed
[00:34:52] [SPEAKER_02]: or hardly received into their love those are indeed some of God's fuels
[00:34:58] [SPEAKER_02]: and nothing is more common than for men to be mistaken concerning their own souls salvation
[00:35:05] [SPEAKER_02]: many that are actually abominable to God
[00:35:08] [SPEAKER_02]: and the children of his wrath think highly of themselves
[00:35:12] [SPEAKER_02]: they think their his precious saints and dear children
[00:35:16] [SPEAKER_02]: yes there is reason to think that often some that are most bold in their confidence
[00:35:22] [SPEAKER_02]: of their safe and happy state and think themselves not only true saints
[00:35:26] [SPEAKER_02]: but the most eminent saints in the congregation are like smoke in God's nostrils
[00:35:32] [SPEAKER_02]: this is sadly often the case even in congregations where the word of God is faithfully preach
[00:35:41] [SPEAKER_02]: but on the day of judgment they will have another sort of meeting
[00:35:46] [SPEAKER_02]: then the secrets of every heart will be made clear and every man's state will be perfectly known
[00:35:54] [SPEAKER_02]: first Corinthians 4-5
[00:35:56] [SPEAKER_02]: therefore judge nothing before the time until the Lord comes
[00:36:01] [SPEAKER_02]: who both will bring to light the hidden things of darkness
[00:36:06] [SPEAKER_02]: and will make clear the councils of the hearts
[00:36:09] [SPEAKER_02]: and then every man will have to praise God
[00:36:15] [SPEAKER_02]: there will be an eternal end to all the self-conceit and vain hopes of deluded hypocrites
[00:36:22] [SPEAKER_02]: and all the doubts and fears of sincere Christians
[00:36:28] [SPEAKER_02]: and then we will all know the state of one another souls
[00:36:33] [SPEAKER_02]: the people will know whether their minister has been sincere and faithful
[00:36:37] [SPEAKER_02]: and the minister will know the state of every one of his people
[00:36:41] [SPEAKER_02]: and to whom the word and ordinance of God have been a saver of life to life
[00:36:47] [SPEAKER_02]: and to whom a saver of death to death
[00:36:52] [SPEAKER_02]: on that day they will then meet their people in the immediate felt presence of this great God saviour and judge
[00:37:02] [SPEAKER_02]: he will be there appearing in the most plain and visible form with great glory
[00:37:09] [SPEAKER_02]: with all his holy angels before them and the whole world
[00:37:14] [SPEAKER_02]: they will not meet them there to hear about an absent Christ, an unseen Lord and a few cured judgment
[00:37:23] [SPEAKER_02]: the meeting on the last day of ministers and the people that have been under their care
[00:37:28] [SPEAKER_02]: will not be attended by anyone with a careless heart
[00:37:33] [SPEAKER_02]: with such a careless heart their meetings are often attended in this world by many people
[00:37:41] [SPEAKER_02]: they do not regard the service to God that they pretend to care about outwardly
[00:37:46] [SPEAKER_02]: and pay little attention to their own thoughts or frame of their minds
[00:37:51] [SPEAKER_02]: but at that great day there will not be one careless heart no sleeping no wandering of mine from the message of the meeting
[00:38:00] [SPEAKER_02]: no unattended of this to the business of the day, no apathy of the presence there and or those great things which they will hear about Christ
[00:38:11] [SPEAKER_02]: having looked at the facts of the meetings on that day of judgment
[00:38:15] [SPEAKER_02]: let us look at the purpose of this meeting
[00:38:19] [SPEAKER_02]: first it's to give an account before the judge of their behavior towards one another
[00:38:26] [SPEAKER_02]: regarding how they behaved to each other
[00:38:31] [SPEAKER_02]: ministers are sent out by Christ to their people on his business
[00:38:37] [SPEAKER_02]: they are his servants and messengers
[00:38:40] [SPEAKER_02]: and when they have finished their service they must return to their master to give him an account of what they have done
[00:38:49] [SPEAKER_02]: so we find in Luke 14 16 through 21
[00:38:53] [SPEAKER_02]: that when the servant who was sent out to call the guests to the great supper had finished his appointed service
[00:39:01] [SPEAKER_02]: he returned to his master and gave him an account of what he had done and how he was received
[00:39:09] [SPEAKER_02]: and when the master being angry
[00:39:12] [SPEAKER_02]: since his servant to others he returns again and gives his master an account of his conduct and success
[00:39:21] [SPEAKER_02]: so we read in Hebrews 1317 of ministers or rulers in the house of God
[00:39:28] [SPEAKER_02]: that they walk for souls as those that must give an account
[00:39:36] [SPEAKER_02]: and we see by the already mentioned Luke 14 that ministers must give an account to their master
[00:39:44] [SPEAKER_02]: not only of their own behavior in the discharge of their office
[00:39:48] [SPEAKER_02]: but also of their people's reception of them
[00:39:52] [SPEAKER_02]: and of the treatment they have met with among them
[00:39:57] [SPEAKER_02]: faithful ministers will then give an account with joy
[00:40:02] [SPEAKER_02]: concerning those who have received them well and made a good improvement of their ministry
[00:40:09] [SPEAKER_02]: and these will be given to them at that day as their crown of rejoicing
[00:40:16] [SPEAKER_02]: and at the same time they will give an account of the ill treatment that those that did not receive them and the messages from Christ
[00:40:25] [SPEAKER_02]: they will meet these not as they used to in this world to counsel and warn them
[00:40:31] [SPEAKER_02]: but to bear witness against them as their judges and witnesses with Christ
[00:40:38] [SPEAKER_02]: to condemn them
[00:40:40] [SPEAKER_02]: and on the other hand the people will at that day rise up in judgment against wicked
[00:40:46] [SPEAKER_02]: and unfaithful ministers who seek their own interests more than the good of the souls of their flock
[00:40:52] [SPEAKER_02]: also at that time ministers and the people who have been under their care will meet together before Christ
[00:40:59] [SPEAKER_02]: so that he made judge between them as to any controversies which have subsisted between them in this world
[00:41:08] [SPEAKER_02]: it often comes to pass in this evil world
[00:41:11] [SPEAKER_02]: the great differences and controversies arise between ministers and the people under their pastoral care
[00:41:19] [SPEAKER_02]: even though they are under the greatest obligations to live in peace
[00:41:23] [SPEAKER_02]: above any other relationships a person might have
[00:41:27] [SPEAKER_02]: yet how often such conflicts occur
[00:41:31] [SPEAKER_02]: sometimes people fight with their ministers about their doctrines
[00:41:35] [SPEAKER_02]: sometimes about their duties and conduct
[00:41:38] [SPEAKER_02]: sometimes such contests continue for a long time
[00:41:42] [SPEAKER_02]: and sometimes they are decided while still in this world according to the prevailing interests
[00:41:48] [SPEAKER_02]: and party
[00:41:50] [SPEAKER_02]: rather than by the word of God
[00:41:53] [SPEAKER_02]: and sometimes such controversies never have any proper conclusion in this world
[00:42:01] [SPEAKER_02]: but at the day of judgment there will be a full perfect and everlasting decision for them
[00:42:09] [SPEAKER_02]: the infallible judge, the infinite fountain of light, truth and justice
[00:42:15] [SPEAKER_02]: will judge between the contending parties and will declare what is the truth
[00:42:21] [SPEAKER_02]: who is in the right and what is agreeable to his mind and will
[00:42:27] [SPEAKER_02]: the parties must stand together before him on the last day
[00:42:32] [SPEAKER_02]: which will be the great day of ending all controversies
[00:42:37] [SPEAKER_02]: rectifying all mistakes and abolishing all unrighteous judgments, errors and confusions
[00:42:43] [SPEAKER_02]: which have before existed in the world
[00:42:47] [SPEAKER_02]: ministers and the people that have been under their care must meet together
[00:42:52] [SPEAKER_02]: at that time to receive an eternal sentence and retribution from the judge
[00:42:59] [SPEAKER_02]: according to their behavior in the present
[00:43:03] [SPEAKER_02]: the judge will not only declare justice but he will do justice
[00:43:09] [SPEAKER_02]: between ministers and their people
[00:43:12] [SPEAKER_02]: he will declare what is right between them, approving those that have been just
[00:43:17] [SPEAKER_02]: faithful and condemning the unjust
[00:43:20] [SPEAKER_02]: perfect truth and equity will take place in the sentences which he passes
[00:43:27] [SPEAKER_02]: in the rewards he gives and the punishments which he inflicts
[00:43:34] [SPEAKER_02]: there will be a glorious reward to faithful ministers to those who have been successful
[00:43:40] [SPEAKER_02]: and will be blessed with a great reward
[00:43:41] [SPEAKER_02]: Daniel, 12, 3 and they that are wise will shine as the brightness of the firmament
[00:43:48] [SPEAKER_02]: and they that turn many to righteousness as the stars forever and ever
[00:43:54] [SPEAKER_02]: and also to those who have been faithful and yet not successful
[00:43:59] [SPEAKER_02]: Isaiah 49, 4
[00:44:02] [SPEAKER_02]: then I said, I have labored in vain. I have spent my strength for nothing
[00:44:10] [SPEAKER_02]: yet surely my judgment is with the Lord and my reward with my God
[00:44:20] [SPEAKER_02]: and those who have been well received and listened to them will be gloriously rewarded
[00:44:26] [SPEAKER_02]: Matthew 10, 40, 41
[00:44:29] [SPEAKER_02]: He that receives you receives me and he that receives me receives him, that's at me
[00:44:36] [SPEAKER_02]: He that receives a prophet in the name of a prophet will receive a prophet's reward
[00:44:43] [SPEAKER_02]: and he that receives a righteous man in the name of a righteous man will receive a righteous man's reward
[00:44:51] [SPEAKER_02]: Such people and their faithful ministers will be each other's crown of rejoicing
[00:44:59] [SPEAKER_02]: First, that's theologians 2 in 19 and 20
[00:45:03] [SPEAKER_02]: For what is our hope, our joy or crown of rejoicing?
[00:45:08] [SPEAKER_02]: Is it not that you will be in the presence of our Lord Jesus Christ at His coming?
[00:45:14] [SPEAKER_02]: For you are our glory and joy
[00:45:18] [SPEAKER_02]: And in the text, we are rejoicing as you also are ours on the day of the Lord Jesus
[00:45:28] [SPEAKER_02]: But those that treat Christ's faithful ministers evenly, especially in that they were actually faithful ministers will be severely punished
[00:45:39] [SPEAKER_02]: Matthew 10, 14 and 15
[00:45:41] [SPEAKER_02]: And whoever will not receive you, nor hear your words
[00:45:45] [SPEAKER_02]: When you depart out of this house or city, shake off the dust of your feet
[00:45:50] [SPEAKER_02]: Truly, I say to you, it will be more tolerable for the sinners of Solomon, Quimora on the day of judgment than for that city
[00:46:01] [SPEAKER_02]: And due to Rotomy 33, 8 through 11
[00:46:04] [SPEAKER_02]: And of Levi, he said, let your Fumim and your Europe be with your holy one
[00:46:13] [SPEAKER_02]: They will teach Jacob your judgments and Israel your law
[00:46:18] [SPEAKER_02]: Bless Lord his substance and accept the work of his hands
[00:46:23] [SPEAKER_02]: Smite through the loins of them that rise against him and of them that hate him that they do not rise again
[00:46:34] [SPEAKER_02]: On the other hand, those ministers who are found to have been unfaithful will have the most terrible punishment
[00:46:42] [SPEAKER_02]: As he killed 33, 6
[00:46:44] [SPEAKER_02]: But if the Watchman sees the sword coming and does not blow the trumpet to warn the people and the sword comes and takes someone's life
[00:46:54] [SPEAKER_02]: That person's life will be taken because of their sin
[00:46:58] [SPEAKER_02]: But I will hold the Watchman accountable for their blood
[00:47:03] [SPEAKER_02]: And so, justice will be administered at the great day to ministers and their people
[00:47:12] [SPEAKER_02]: And to that end, they will meet together that they may not only receive justice to themselves
[00:47:20] [SPEAKER_02]: But see justice done to the other side
[00:47:24] [SPEAKER_02]: For this is the end of that great day
[00:47:28] [SPEAKER_02]: To reveal or declare the righteous judgment of God
[00:47:32] [SPEAKER_02]: Ministers will have justice done to them and they will see justice done to their people
[00:47:39] [SPEAKER_02]: And the people will receive justice themselves from their judge and will see justice done to their minister
[00:47:49] [SPEAKER_02]: And so, all things will be adjusted and settled forever between them
[00:47:54] [SPEAKER_02]: Everyone being sentenced and repaid according to his works
[00:47:58] [SPEAKER_02]: Either receiving a wearing a crown of eternal joy in glory or in suffering everlasting shame and pain
[00:48:06] [SPEAKER_02]: What are the reasons God would do things this way?
[00:48:12] [SPEAKER_02]: The scripture declares that God will bring every work in the judgment with every secret thing
[00:48:19] [SPEAKER_02]: Whether it is good or whether it is evil
[00:48:21] [SPEAKER_02]: It is right that all the concerns and all the behavior mankind both public and private
[00:48:28] [SPEAKER_02]: Should be brought at last before God's tribunal and finally determined by an infallible judge
[00:48:37] [SPEAKER_02]: Now the concerns of a Christian minister and his courage and congregation are of most importance
[00:48:43] [SPEAKER_02]: And many respects of much greater importance than the earthly concerns of the greatest earthly monarchs and their kingdoms or empires
[00:48:53] [SPEAKER_02]: It is a vast consequence how ministers upheld their office and conducted themselves towards their people in the work of the ministry
[00:49:04] [SPEAKER_02]: It is also a matter of vast importance how people receive and treat a faithful minister of Christ and how they improved under his ministry
[00:49:15] [SPEAKER_02]: These things have a more immediate and direct response to the great and final end for which man has made
[00:49:23] [SPEAKER_02]: Any of the other concerns of men and therefore it is especially fitting that these affairs should be brought into judgment in truth and in righteousness
[00:49:38] [SPEAKER_02]: Let us look at how to apply this matter
[00:49:42] [SPEAKER_02]: I would like to lead the people here who have been under my pastoral care to some personal reflections and give them some advice about the current situation
[00:49:53] [SPEAKER_02]: And remembering that we will meet each other before the great tribunal on the day of judgment
[00:50:00] [SPEAKER_02]: The deep and serious consideration of our future solemn meeting is definitely suitable at such a time as this
[00:50:08] [SPEAKER_02]: So much has occurred between us that I am warning you it will likely lead to an everlasting separation
[00:50:17] [SPEAKER_02]: How often have we met together in the house of God?
[00:50:21] [SPEAKER_02]: How often have I spoken to you instructed council warn directed and fed you and in minister communion with you as the people which were committed to my care and of whose precious souls I had the courage
[00:50:37] [SPEAKER_02]: But in all probability this never will be again
[00:50:41] [SPEAKER_02]: The prophet Jeremiah chapter 25 3 puts a people in mind how long he had labored among them in the work of the ministry
[00:50:51] [SPEAKER_02]: From the 13th year of Gessiah the son of a man King of Judah even to this day that is 3 and 20 years
[00:51:01] [SPEAKER_02]: The word of the Lord came to me and I have spoken to you rising early and speaking
[00:51:07] [SPEAKER_02]: I'm not about to compare myself with the prophet Jeremiah, but in this respect I can say as he did that I've spoken the word of God to you
[00:51:18] [SPEAKER_02]: To the 3 and 20th year rising early and speaking
[00:51:22] [SPEAKER_02]: It has been 23 years the 15th day of last February since I've labored in the work of the ministry as a pastor to this church and congregation
[00:51:33] [SPEAKER_02]: And though my strength has been weak having always labored under great sickness of body yet I have not spared my people strength
[00:51:42] [SPEAKER_02]: But have exerted it for the good of your souls
[00:51:47] [SPEAKER_02]: I can appeal to you as the apostle does to his ears in Galatians 413
[00:51:54] [SPEAKER_02]: You know how I thoroughly how I threw in firmety of the flesh, I preach the gospel to you
[00:52:02] [SPEAKER_02]: I've spent the prime of my life in strength in labor for your eternal welfare
[00:52:10] [SPEAKER_02]: You are my witness that what strength I have had I have not neglected in idleness nor laid out in prosecuting worldly schemes for the advancement of my outward state and building up myself a family
[00:52:26] [SPEAKER_02]: But have given myself to the work of the ministry laboring in a day and night rising early and applying myself to this great business to which Christ appointed me
[00:52:37] [SPEAKER_02]: I've found the work of the ministry among you to be a massive work indeed a work of exceeding care, labor and difficulty
[00:52:48] [SPEAKER_02]: Many have been the heavy burdens that I have borne in it to which my strength has been lacking
[00:52:54] [SPEAKER_02]: God called me to bear these burdens and I bless his name that he has so supported me as to keep me from sinking under them
[00:53:04] [SPEAKER_02]: So that all they though I have often been troubled on every side yet I have not been in distress
[00:53:11] [SPEAKER_02]: Confused but not in despair cast down, but not destroyed
[00:53:16] [SPEAKER_02]: But now I have reason to think my work is finished which I came to do as your minister for you have publicly rejected me
[00:53:27] [SPEAKER_02]: So how important is it that we now consider that time when we will meet one another before the chief shepherd
[00:53:37] [SPEAKER_02]: We don't must give an account of my stewardship of the service
[00:53:40] [SPEAKER_02]: I have done for him and the reception and treatment
[00:53:44] [SPEAKER_02]: I have had among the people that he sent me to
[00:53:48] [SPEAKER_02]: And you must give an account of your conduct toward me
[00:53:53] [SPEAKER_02]: For then both you and I must appear together
[00:53:57] [SPEAKER_02]: And we both must give an account while an infallible righteous and eternal sentence will be passed upon us by him who will judge us with respect to all that we have said and done in our time there
[00:54:14] [SPEAKER_02]: And all are conduct toward one another in the house of God and elsewhere
[00:54:20] [SPEAKER_02]: He will try our hearts and he will know our faults
[00:54:24] [SPEAKER_02]: He will judge us with respect to all the controversies which have existed between us with the strictest impartiality and will examine our treatment of each other in those controversies
[00:54:40] [SPEAKER_02]: There is nothing covered that will not be revealed nor hidden which will not be known
[00:54:48] [SPEAKER_02]: All will be examined in the searching, penetrating light of God's omniscience and glory
[00:54:55] [SPEAKER_02]: And by him whose eyes are as a flame of fire
[00:55:00] [SPEAKER_02]: Truth and right will be made plainly visible
[00:55:04] [SPEAKER_02]: And all error falsehood, unrighteousness
[00:55:08] [SPEAKER_02]: And injury will be laid open, stripped of every disguise
[00:55:14] [SPEAKER_02]: Every pretence, every trick and all false reasoning will vanish in a moment
[00:55:20] [SPEAKER_02]: As not being able to bear the light of day
[00:55:24] [SPEAKER_02]: And then our hearts will be turned inside out and the secrets of them will be made more plainly to appear than our outward actions do now
[00:55:37] [SPEAKER_02]: Then it will appear what the goals are which we have aimed at
[00:55:43] [SPEAKER_02]: What have been the governing principles which we acted on and what have been the attitudes we have exercised in our disputes and contests
[00:55:53] [SPEAKER_02]: Then it will appear whether I acted uprightly and from a truly conscientious, careful regard to my duty to my great Lord and master
[00:56:03] [SPEAKER_02]: And then our last great controversy over the qualifications needed for the privileges of memberships
[00:56:12] [SPEAKER_02]: It will be examined and judged in all its parts and circumstances
[00:56:17] [SPEAKER_02]: And the whole thing set out in a clear, certain and perfect light
[00:56:24] [SPEAKER_02]: Then it will appear whether the doctrine which I have preached and published concerning this matter is Christ's own doctrine
[00:56:33] [SPEAKER_02]: And he will not own it as one of the precious truths which have preceded from his own mouth and vindicate and honor it before the whole universe
[00:56:46] [SPEAKER_02]: Then it will appear what is meant by the man that comes without the wedding garment
[00:56:52] [SPEAKER_02]: For that is a day spoken of in Matthew 2213
[00:56:57] [SPEAKER_02]: For such a one will be bound hand in foot and cast into outer darkness where there will be reaping a gnashing of teeth
[00:57:09] [SPEAKER_02]: And then it will appear whether in declaring this doctrine and acting according to it
[00:57:16] [SPEAKER_02]: And in my general conduct in the affair whether I have been influenced from any regard to my own personal interests
[00:57:24] [SPEAKER_02]: Or if I was worried about my own honor or desire to appear wiser than others
[00:57:30] [SPEAKER_02]: Or have acted from any sinister worldly views of any kind
[00:57:35] [SPEAKER_02]: And whether what I have done has not been from a careful, strict and tender regard to the will of my Lord and master
[00:57:46] [SPEAKER_02]: Then it will be seen whether I had this constantly in view
[00:57:50] [SPEAKER_02]: For if I was seeking my own interest, I chose in this course to act in every way against it
[00:57:57] [SPEAKER_02]: This ordeal brought a long series of extreme difficulties and plunged me into an abyss of trouble and sorrow
[00:58:06] [SPEAKER_02]: And then it will appear whether my people have done their duty to their pastor with respect to this matter
[00:58:13] [SPEAKER_02]: Whether they have shown the right temper and spirit on this occasion
[00:58:18] [SPEAKER_02]: Whether they have done me justice in hearing attending to and considering what I had to say in evidence of what I believed and taught as part of the Council of God
[00:58:29] [SPEAKER_02]: Whether I have been treated with that impartiality love and regard
[00:58:35] [SPEAKER_02]: Which the just judge esteemed due his ministers
[00:58:40] [SPEAKER_02]: Then every step of the conduct of each of us in this affair from first to last and the heart
[00:58:48] [SPEAKER_02]: We have acted upon in all will be examined and our own conscience will speak plainly
[00:58:56] [SPEAKER_02]: And never will there be any more mistake or misrepresentation of this affair for all eternity
[00:59:06] [SPEAKER_02]: So I will leave it to that time and we'll say no more about it at present
[00:59:12] [SPEAKER_02]: But I would now proceed to address myself to you particularly
[00:59:18] [SPEAKER_02]: To those who claim to be faithful Christians
[00:59:23] [SPEAKER_02]: I would now call you to a serious consideration of that great day in which you must meet him who has up until now
[00:59:35] [SPEAKER_02]: In your pastor before the judge whose eyes are as a flame of fire
[00:59:40] [SPEAKER_02]: I have attempted to the best of my ability to search for the word of God
[00:59:46] [SPEAKER_02]: And yet I fear that after all that I have done I now leave some of you in a deceived deluded state
[00:59:56] [SPEAKER_02]: From this point on word, I will have no more opportunity to take care and charge of your souls
[01:00:04] [SPEAKER_02]: To examine and search him
[01:00:06] [SPEAKER_02]: But I still beg you to remember and consider the scriptures which I have often laid down to you during my ministry
[01:00:16] [SPEAKER_02]: The judge himself who is infallible will test both you and me and after this
[01:00:24] [SPEAKER_02]: None will be deceived concerning the state of their souls
[01:00:28] [SPEAKER_02]: I have often had you in mind that whatever your pretenses to experiences discoveries
[01:00:36] [SPEAKER_02]: Confirts and joys have been at that day everyone will be judged according to his works
[01:00:44] [SPEAKER_02]: I pray that you may have a minister of greater knowledge of the word of God
[01:00:51] [SPEAKER_02]: And of greater skill in applying himself to souls who sermons are more convicting
[01:00:57] [SPEAKER_02]: And if any of you have been deceived by my preaching that you may have your eyes opened by his
[01:01:06] [SPEAKER_02]: What methods and instructors for self-examination you may have from now on is uncertain
[01:01:16] [SPEAKER_02]: But one thing is certain that the time is short your opportunity for correcting mistakes and such important concerns will soon come to an end
[01:01:29] [SPEAKER_02]: We live in a world of great changes
[01:01:33] [SPEAKER_02]: Right now a great change is coming to pass
[01:01:37] [SPEAKER_02]: You have withdrawn yourselves from my ministry under which you have been a part for so many years
[01:01:45] [SPEAKER_02]: But the time is coming and will soon come when you will pass out of time into eternity
[01:01:53] [SPEAKER_02]: And with it will pass all means of grace if you haven't received them yet
[01:01:59] [SPEAKER_02]: The greater part of you who are claiming to have godliness have to use a phrase of the impossible, a possible and knowledge me in part
[01:02:10] [SPEAKER_02]: You have acknowledged me to be your spiritual father the instrument of the greatest good to you that can be obtained by any of the children of men
[01:02:20] [SPEAKER_02]: Consider that day when you and I meet before our judge and it will be examined whether you have had from me the treatment which is due to spiritual children
[01:02:34] [SPEAKER_02]: And whether you have treated me as you should have treated a spiritual father
[01:02:40] [SPEAKER_02]: First Corinthians 415
[01:02:42] [SPEAKER_02]: For though you have 10,000 instructors in Christ yet you do not have many fathers for in Christ Jesus I have been gotten you through the gospel
[01:02:56] [SPEAKER_02]: Now let me speak to the people I leave in a Christless, gracious condition
[01:03:03] [SPEAKER_02]: I would call on these to seriously consider that day when they and I must meet before the judge of the world
[01:03:17] [SPEAKER_02]: My parting with you is a melancholy parting for I'm leaving you in the most melancholy circumstance
[01:03:26] [SPEAKER_02]: For I leave you in the gall of bitterness and bondage of sin having the wrath of God abiding on you and remaining under condemnation to everlasting misery and destruction
[01:03:42] [SPEAKER_02]: Seeing that I must leave you it could have been a comfortable and happy circumstance of our parting
[01:03:50] [SPEAKER_02]: If I had left you in Christ safe and blessed in that sure refuge and glorious rest of the saints
[01:04:01] [SPEAKER_02]: But it is not like this for us. I leave you far off, exiles and strangers, wrecked subjects and captives of sin and Satan and prisoners of God's future justice
[01:04:20] [SPEAKER_02]: Christ and without God in the world
[01:04:24] [SPEAKER_02]: Your conscience bears witness that while I had opportunity, I have never stopped warning you and set before you your great danger
[01:04:37] [SPEAKER_02]: I have worked and studied to explain the misery of your circumstances in the clearest manner possible
[01:04:49] [SPEAKER_02]: I have tried always that I could think of to awaken your conscience and make you aware of the necessity of salvation and to be speedy and flying from the wrath to come
[01:05:06] [SPEAKER_02]: I have diligently attempted to work out and use the most powerful illustrations to persuade you to take care of your own welfare and salvation
[01:05:18] [SPEAKER_02]: I have searched for acceptable words that if possible, I might prevail upon you to forsake sin and turn to God and accept Christ as your Savior and Lord
[01:05:33] [SPEAKER_02]: I have used all my strength on these things, but yet with regard to those of you that are matressing, I have not been successful
[01:05:47] [SPEAKER_02]: I have this day reason to complain in those words Jeremiah 629
[01:05:55] [SPEAKER_02]: The bellows are burnt, the lead is consumed by the fire, the furnace melts in vain for the wicked are not plucked away
[01:06:08] [SPEAKER_02]: I fear that all my labors for many of you have served no other purpose, but to harden you and that the word which I have preached instead of being a Savior of life to life has been a Savior of death to death
[01:06:26] [SPEAKER_02]: Though I cannot give an account for the future since you have openly and resolutely renounce my ministry, yet remember you must give an account for yourselves
[01:06:38] [SPEAKER_02]: God only knows what will become of your poor parishing souls
[01:06:46] [SPEAKER_02]: May God and His mercy grant that however all past methods have been unsuccessful, that the word of God as it will be soon preached to you may prove as a fire and the hammer that breaks the rock to pieces
[01:07:05] [SPEAKER_02]: However, let me now apparting, exhort and beg you not to wholly forget the warnings you have had while under my ministry
[01:07:15] [SPEAKER_02]: When you and I meet on the day of judgment, then you will remember them
[01:07:21] [SPEAKER_02]: The sight of me, your former minister, on that day will remind all my warnings to you
[01:07:29] [SPEAKER_02]: Oh, do not let that be the first time that they remembered you and I are now parting from one another in this world
[01:07:39] [SPEAKER_02]: Let us labor so that we may not be parted on our meeting on the last day
[01:07:45] [SPEAKER_02]: If I had been your faithful pastor, which on that day it will be proven whether I have or not
[01:07:52] [SPEAKER_02]: Then I will be acquitted and will ascend with Christ
[01:07:57] [SPEAKER_02]: Oh, do your part that in such a case you may not be forced eternally to part for me
[01:08:07] [SPEAKER_02]: Today is a sorrowful parting
[01:08:10] [SPEAKER_02]: But that would be unimaginably more sorrowful
[01:08:18] [SPEAKER_02]: Now, I would address myself to those who are under some awakenings by the spirit
[01:08:24] [SPEAKER_02]: Blessed be God that there are such and that although I have reason to fear I leave multitudes in this large congregation in a crisis state
[01:08:35] [SPEAKER_02]: Yet I do not leave them all in total emptiness and carelessness about their souls
[01:08:42] [SPEAKER_02]: Some of you that I have reason to hope are under some awakenings have told me of your circumstances
[01:08:48] [SPEAKER_02]: This is calls me now that I am leaving you to take my leave with extra concern for you
[01:08:56] [SPEAKER_02]: Now that I am parting with this fuck, I would once more press upon you the councils I have been giving
[01:09:03] [SPEAKER_02]: To be where a backsliding to hold on and hold out to the end
[01:09:08] [SPEAKER_02]: And cry mightily to God that these great cages which pass over this church and congregation do not prove your overthrow
[01:09:19] [SPEAKER_02]: There is great temptation in them and the devil will undoubtedly seek to take advantage of them
[01:09:27] [SPEAKER_02]: If possible to cause your present convictions and works to be miscarried
[01:09:34] [SPEAKER_02]: You need to double your diligence and watch and pray so that you are not overcome by temptation
[01:09:43] [SPEAKER_02]: Whoever may come after and stand over you as your spiritual guide, my desire and prayer is that the great shepherd of the sheep
[01:09:52] [SPEAKER_02]: Would have a special concern for you and be your guide for there is none that teaches like him and that he who is the infinite fountain of light
[01:10:03] [SPEAKER_02]: Would open your eyes and turn you from darkness to light and from the power of Satan to God that you may receive forgiveness of sins and inheritance among them that are sanctified through faith that is in Christ
[01:10:20] [SPEAKER_02]: So that on that great day when I will meet with you again before our your judge of mine
[01:10:27] [SPEAKER_02]: We may meet in joyful and glorious circumstances never to be separated anymore
[01:10:36] [SPEAKER_02]: Now, I would like to speak to the young people of the congregation
[01:10:41] [SPEAKER_02]: Since I have been settled in the work of the ministry in this place
[01:10:45] [SPEAKER_02]: I have had a special concern for the souls of the young people and a desire that religion might flourish among them
[01:10:53] [SPEAKER_02]: And I've worked especially in order to see it
[01:10:58] [SPEAKER_02]: Because I knew the special opportunity they had beyond others
[01:11:04] [SPEAKER_02]: And that ordinarily those for whom God intended mercy were brought to fear and love him in their youth
[01:11:12] [SPEAKER_02]: And it has ever appeared to me a particularly good thing to see young people walking in the ways of virtue and Christian piety
[01:11:23] [SPEAKER_02]: Having their hearts, purified and sweetened with a principle of divine love
[01:11:30] [SPEAKER_02]: How extra beautiful and conductive to the adorning and happiness of the town if the young people could be persuaded
[01:11:38] [SPEAKER_02]: When they meet together to converse as Christians and as the children of God
[01:11:44] [SPEAKER_02]: If they avoid impurity, foolishness and extravagance
[01:11:49] [SPEAKER_02]: Keep in strictly to the rules of virtue of conversing together of the things of God and Christ and heaven
[01:11:57] [SPEAKER_02]: This is what I have long for and it has been especially terrible to me when I've heard of sin, vanity and disorder among our youth
[01:12:06] [SPEAKER_02]: And so far as I know in my own heart, it was for this reason that I've formally led this church to take measures for the suppression of sin among our young people
[01:12:20] [SPEAKER_02]: This is what gave such a great offense and by which I became so odious
[01:12:27] [SPEAKER_02]: I have wanted the good and not the hurt of our young people
[01:12:32] [SPEAKER_02]: I've desired their trust, honor and happiness and not their reproach
[01:12:38] [SPEAKER_02]: Knowing that true virtue and religion tend to not only to glorify and
[01:12:45] [SPEAKER_02]: Felicity of young people in another world but their greatest peace and prosperity and highest dignity and honor in this world
[01:12:57] [SPEAKER_02]: And above all things to sweeten and render pleasant and delightful even the days of youth
[01:13:06] [SPEAKER_02]: But whether I have loved you and want in your good more or less, now committing yourselves to him who once committed the pastoral care of them to me
[01:13:17] [SPEAKER_02]: Nothing remains but only as I am now taking my leave of you
[01:13:23] [SPEAKER_02]: Honestly to beg you from love to yourselves if you have none for me not to despise and forget the warnings and councils I have given you
[01:13:36] [SPEAKER_02]: Remember the day when you am not must meet again before that great judge
[01:13:42] [SPEAKER_02]: Then it will appear whether the things I have taught you were true, whether the councils I've given you were good
[01:13:50] [SPEAKER_02]: And whether you have listened to me
[01:13:53] [SPEAKER_02]: Lastly, I would speak to the children of the congregation, the lambs of this flock who have been so long under my care
[01:14:03] [SPEAKER_02]: I've just now said that I have had a special concern for the young people and in saying this, I did not intend to exclude you, you are in youth too
[01:14:15] [SPEAKER_02]: So let me not neglect you
[01:14:19] [SPEAKER_02]: Christ did once commit the care of your souls to me as your minister
[01:14:27] [SPEAKER_02]: And you know dear children, how I have instructed you and warned you from time to time
[01:14:34] [SPEAKER_02]: You know how I have often called you together for that reason
[01:14:39] [SPEAKER_02]: And some of you sometimes have seemed to be affected with what I've said to you
[01:14:47] [SPEAKER_02]: But I'm afraid it has had no saving effect on many of you
[01:14:52] [SPEAKER_02]: That many of you remain still in an unconverted condition
[01:14:58] [SPEAKER_02]: You have not been convinced thoroughly of your sin and misery
[01:15:03] [SPEAKER_02]: Causing you to see the great evil of sin and the mourn for it and hate it above all things
[01:15:11] [SPEAKER_02]: And giving you a sense of the excellency of the Lord Jesus Christ
[01:15:17] [SPEAKER_02]: He wants to bring you with all your hearts to him as your Savior
[01:15:24] [SPEAKER_02]: Removing your hearts from the world and causing you to love God above all
[01:15:31] [SPEAKER_02]: And to delight in his holiness more than all the pleasures of this earth
[01:15:38] [SPEAKER_02]: And I must now leave you in a sad condition having no interest in Christ
[01:15:44] [SPEAKER_02]: And so under the awful, this pleasure of God and in danger of going down to the pit of eternal misery
[01:15:53] [SPEAKER_02]: Now I must be new farewell
[01:15:55] [SPEAKER_02]: I must leave you in the hands of God
[01:15:59] [SPEAKER_02]: I can do no more for you than to pray for you
[01:16:03] [SPEAKER_02]: I only ask you not to forget but often think of the councils that warnings I have given you
[01:16:12] [SPEAKER_02]: And the efforts I have used that your souls might be saved from everlasting destruction
[01:16:21] [SPEAKER_02]: Dear children, I leave you in an evil world that is full of snares and temptations
[01:16:29] [SPEAKER_02]: God only knows what will become of you
[01:16:33] [SPEAKER_02]: This scripture has told us that there are but few saved and we have a abundant recognition of it from what we see
[01:16:42] [SPEAKER_02]: For we see that children die as well as others
[01:16:48] [SPEAKER_02]: Multitudes die before they grow up
[01:16:50] [SPEAKER_02]: And of those that grow up comparatively few ever give good evidence of saving conversion to God
[01:16:58] [SPEAKER_02]: I pray God to have pity on you and take care of you and provide for you the best of the good of your souls
[01:17:11] [SPEAKER_02]: That God himself would work for you and be your heavenly father
[01:17:18] [SPEAKER_02]: And the mighty Redeemer of your immortal souls
[01:17:23] [SPEAKER_02]: Do not neglect to pray for yourselves
[01:17:27] [SPEAKER_02]: Take care that you are not among those who do not have any fear of the future and hold back their prayer before God
[01:17:37] [SPEAKER_02]: Constantly pray to God in secret and often remember that that great day when you must appear before the judgment seat of Christ
[01:17:48] [SPEAKER_02]: For at the judgment seat of Christ
[01:17:51] [SPEAKER_02]: You will meet your minister there that so often counseled and warned you of that day
[01:18:12] [SPEAKER_00]: In this sermon Jonathan Edwards talks about how every congregation is going to see their pastor someday
[01:18:19] [SPEAKER_00]: And they're going to be judged alongside their pastor something honestly I
[01:18:23] [SPEAKER_00]: You kind of think about it, but I never really thought about it. It really makes me think about my own
[01:18:27] [SPEAKER_00]: Ministries and things that I do what who I see on that day and will I be able to
[01:18:32] [SPEAKER_00]: Look at the people and feel confident that I was faithful to God and presenting the gospel to them. It's an interesting thought for sure
[01:18:39] [SPEAKER_00]: And it's also interesting and that interesting. It's also scary, but it's also just
[01:18:45] [SPEAKER_00]: It's we look at these guys in history and we can often see just the amazing things they did all this stuff
[01:18:50] [SPEAKER_00]: They did, but you can really tell that words in this situation. He's leaving on a bitter note not bitter is in the he's in bitter
[01:18:56] [SPEAKER_00]: But just bitter is in this was not a good note
[01:18:58] [SPEAKER_00]: And he's looking at the congregation one last time saying believe in Jesus
[01:19:01] [SPEAKER_00]: I hope I see you on that judgment day, but I'm worried that I won't we won't be going to the same place and it's just the all the emotion of that this great man
[01:19:10] [SPEAKER_00]: It did so much for church history yet. Look at how he's having to leave that church and the situation all of it didn't work out
[01:19:16] [SPEAKER_00]: The ministry didn't all turn out great. It wasn't all you know sunshine. It was really really hard
[01:19:22] [SPEAKER_00]: And I just appreciate this sermon a lot for that. I appreciate the fact that even at the bitter
[01:19:28] [SPEAKER_00]: And he could have been very angry and just kind of you know told them you know see later
[01:19:32] [SPEAKER_00]: But he really he really cared about their souls and he put away all of the personal very strong feelings
[01:19:38] [SPEAKER_00]: He probably had to give one last presentation of the gospel hope even praying and maybe just maybe some of them would turn to Christ as he was leaving out the door
[01:19:46] [SPEAKER_00]: And I think that's just there's a lot there to emulate there's a lot there to model and I think that we should all if you have ever been to a bad ministry
[01:19:54] [SPEAKER_00]: Ministry situation
[01:19:55] [SPEAKER_00]: I think you can look at what Edwards is going through and say I relate and I appreciate the way he did it
[01:20:13] [SPEAKER_01]: Thank you for listening to today's episode of revived thoughts that these sermon was nerded by John Thomas
