Richard Johnson: Come to Christ, Australia!

Richard Johnson was the first official chaplain to go with the British to found the colony that would be in Australia. Five years into their time on the frontier he gave the following message to the people of Australia.

00:00 --> 00:03 [SPEAKER_02]: Revived thoughts is a production of Revived Studios.
00:08 --> 00:11 [SPEAKER_01]: This is Troy Angel, and you're listening to Revived Thoughts.
00:16 --> 00:21 [SPEAKER_00]: We have now been together for almost five years, and during that time, I trust.
00:21 --> 00:27 [SPEAKER_00]: I have faithfully fulfilled my calling, remaining faithful to my God, to my conscience,
00:31 --> 00:38 [SPEAKER_02]: Every episode, we bring you a different voice from history and a sermon that they delivered today, we're listening to a sermon by Richard Johnson.
00:39 --> 00:46 [SPEAKER_02]: It was preached in 1792 in New South Wales by the first Christian cleric to Australia.
00:46 --> 00:46 [SPEAKER_02]: That's his title.
00:47 --> 00:48 [SPEAKER_02]: A cleric to Australia.
00:48 --> 00:49 [SPEAKER_02]: Are you intrigued?
00:49 --> 00:50 [SPEAKER_02]: I'm intrigued.
00:50 --> 00:52 [SPEAKER_02]: We're going to have fun talking about Australia in this one.
00:53 --> 00:55 [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, so Australia pretty excited.
00:55 --> 00:56 [SPEAKER_01]: Land down under.
00:56 --> 00:57 [SPEAKER_01]: Is that the
01:00 --> 01:09 [SPEAKER_01]: Oh, guys, actually, okay, so this is not in the script or anything, but we have had a surprisingly large number of people from Australia tuning in as of late.
01:09 --> 01:15 [SPEAKER_01]: I've had multiple emails, comments, feedback, people, and not just our show, the whole revised studios.
01:17 --> 01:19 [SPEAKER_01]: that we're doing here at least has gotten multiple messages.
01:19 --> 01:28 [SPEAKER_01]: In fact, somebody in Australia who listens to Marta's missionaries sent us a book into Indonesia that at least is going to do an episode on not too long from now.
01:28 --> 01:31 [SPEAKER_01]: So a lot of, you know, we welcome all of you.
01:31 --> 01:34 [SPEAKER_01]: I promise this episode wasn't done because of all of you listening.
01:34 --> 01:36 [SPEAKER_01]: We were like, oh, no, we have Australian listeners.
01:36 --> 01:37 [SPEAKER_01]: We need to put an episode together for them.
01:37 --> 01:43 [SPEAKER_01]: I just, when we were in Australia, a little action on a few months ago, a while ago, my wife and I,
01:44 --> 02:08 [SPEAKER_01]: We met one of our listeners that was on and she was awesome her family was great We had a great time with them and when I came back I was kind of like I was I was interested because when we were visiting the city of Perth Like there were just all these there were just interesting things about at the area like there were all these parks That were like shipwreck themed and you'd see little signs like in 1600 and such and such a Shipwreck cabin here and 10 people died and you really like that's so
02:09 --> 02:12 [SPEAKER_01]: random and kind of weird that you'd make a park themed after that ship wreck.
02:12 --> 02:14 [SPEAKER_01]: But hey, you know, that's whatever works for the kids, right?
02:15 --> 02:24 [SPEAKER_01]: And we went to the whole museum and there was all these apparently the Netherlands had kind of made a half-hearted attempt to explore Australia before the British kind of came over all this kind of stuff.
02:24 --> 02:29 [SPEAKER_01]: And I was like, you know what, I learned from that short visit that I don't know much about Australia's history.
02:30 --> 02:35 [SPEAKER_01]: And on all really, as far as I'm concerned, Australia existed as a continent.
02:38 --> 02:59 [SPEAKER_01]: uh... what the crocodile hunter guy showed up and that's pretty much all new about australia from point a point be there and so it was interesting and then that made me obviously go okay well are any great famous preachers you know what who's been there what's going on there and that was how i ran into uh... disguised sermon rich or johnson and his whole story and i thought a story was really interesting as i couldn't wait to get the script out to everybody
03:00 --> 03:08 [SPEAKER_01]: So that's all right so Jill the first let's do some positive responses here out here to revive thoughts some comments you guys have been leaving on On somewhere on here.
03:08 --> 03:21 [SPEAKER_01]: I think it's extra something somebody said there show is super interesting So thank you for that pop up was his name and a raft says I'll I'm gonna listen to this show He's been listening to us a lot but he was really it looks like he really enjoyed the young husps episode
03:22 --> 03:23 [SPEAKER_01]: on Spotify.
03:23 --> 03:24 [SPEAKER_01]: I believe it's here.
03:25 --> 03:26 [SPEAKER_01]: No, also on X.
03:26 --> 03:31 [SPEAKER_01]: This one says very well read by someone who understood and believed what he was reading real food.
03:31 --> 03:35 [SPEAKER_01]: I especially related to not fearing how little faith I had been to look to him.
03:36 --> 03:39 [SPEAKER_01]: And this was an episode about our young us episode that we put out.
03:39 --> 03:41 [SPEAKER_01]: So thank you so much for those of you who've been listening to
03:44 --> 03:45 [SPEAKER_01]: that we appreciate to keep getting the word out.
03:45 --> 03:47 [SPEAKER_01]: It's been a great episode well received.
03:47 --> 03:49 [SPEAKER_01]: And that sermon was a great one too.
03:49 --> 03:52 [SPEAKER_01]: I remember using that sermon with my students, having them read it.
03:53 --> 03:55 [SPEAKER_01]: They thought it was cool that they were the some of the first people to ever read it in English.
03:56 --> 03:58 [SPEAKER_01]: But the sermon itself is very, very powerful.
03:58 --> 04:01 [SPEAKER_01]: Great answer to why God leaves false teachers in the church.
04:01 --> 04:04 [SPEAKER_01]: Why does need to snap his fingers and make them all go away?
04:04 --> 04:09 [SPEAKER_01]: Yonhus, who was dealing with persecution, by false teachers, gives a really good answer.
04:10 --> 04:24 [SPEAKER_01]: and then Bruce here, oh, I put this email in here because, you know, we have an Australian episode, and I was telling you, Bruce here, high-trail angel, Bruce listening from Baptist Church, and NSW, Australia, I believe that's New South Wales, Australia, is that right?
04:24 --> 04:24 [SPEAKER_01]: I'm not sure.
04:25 --> 04:27 [SPEAKER_01]: Like all your thoughts podcast for just next year.
04:27 --> 04:29 [SPEAKER_01]: Thank you for the menu destroy the church series You did recently.
04:29 --> 04:34 [SPEAKER_01]: I've listened all all of it three times over just so I can take it all in I think I'll listen to this series a few more times.
04:34 --> 04:43 [SPEAKER_01]: I can commit the main themes to memory I found it really intriguing of this effort to destroy the church and trust people put into the church and Yes, so he went on, but thank you so much Bruce.
04:43 --> 04:44 [SPEAKER_01]: I appreciate you.
04:44 --> 04:46 [SPEAKER_01]: I glad you liked that episode series We heard some great feedback some people
04:47 --> 04:59 [SPEAKER_01]: We're like why haven't you made the you know the new series of that yet, you know, and I was like, well, we're working on Christian or not and we've got a lot of stuff going on, but I really do appreciate people who listen to that series and I hope it's been helpful for them.
04:59 --> 05:07 [SPEAKER_01]: I would love to do more with that series in the future, but right now it's it's a table for getting Christian or not and some other stuff going, but it is on my mind.
05:07 --> 05:07 [SPEAKER_01]: I like it.
05:08 --> 05:23 [SPEAKER_01]: I think it's pretty important and even since I made that episode I've learned even more stuff that I don't like, oh man, I have to make room for this guy, I have a new name on that I'd add to that list that goes even before we're so, my name is Thomas Moore and I can tell you why, but maybe that'll be a future episode of some kind of self, but
05:24 --> 05:41 [SPEAKER_01]: So I appreciate you listening, but also I want to mention his email because again just more proof that these Australian listeners are finding their way to us, so we welcome all of you whether you're from Australia, whether you're from the old whales, that is I think the original whales, whether you're from America or many of the many other places people listen.
05:41 --> 05:48 [SPEAKER_01]: We were excited that I love that our audience is not just in location, but that our episodes have been reaching people all over the world.
05:48 --> 05:49 [SPEAKER_01]: And that's I think really cool.
05:50 --> 06:18 [SPEAKER_01]: We do have a pretty cool diverse audience and I think it's a testament to kind of the global reach that the timeless word of God has right like all of these things and and all of these sermons are mostly not American and we have a few yeah we have a few good Americans figures but most of them yeah surprisingly large amount come from Kentucky not not no offense to Kentuckyans like you know it's not like surprisingly they're Kentucky but you know this is like I when you'd ask me when we first heard the show and we expect so many from that one particular region but
06:19 --> 06:41 [SPEAKER_01]: uh... yeah you look at you look at we have a map on our website uh... revisots map and it just shows there's a little marker for every single thing on every single at marker has an episode task to it and not all of the more about some of our mission are some of uh... some of our other shows but you look at the map and is very very very clear that the lord has been working globally because the and there's spots everywhere
06:41 --> 07:05 [SPEAKER_02]: and sure there are more in like London and there are more and you know some of the places you might expect but I mean there's a lot everywhere it's a full map I'm looking at it right now it's like yep the Lord is working across the board Richard Johnson is who we're talking about today and he's considered the first Christian cleric to Australia but Richard Johnson himself is not Australian he's an Englishman born in Yorkshire in 1755 and
07:07 --> 07:12 [SPEAKER_02]: and our first paper trail we have of him is him going to college.
07:12 --> 07:19 [SPEAKER_02]: He went to Cambridge and for a short while, he served as an assistant to a preacher during this great awakening era.
07:19 --> 07:23 [SPEAKER_02]: He served as assistant to a man named Henry Foster.
07:23 --> 07:31 [SPEAKER_02]: who was not, you know, he's not one of the more famous names like a John Wesley or a George Whitfield, but it was none the last.
07:31 --> 07:44 [SPEAKER_02]: A part of those who affected people's lives, but he only did that for a short while serving as the assistant to Henry Foster before he was named the chaplain of Australia, or the chaplain to Australia.
07:44 --> 07:47 [SPEAKER_02]: Before he was named the chaplain to Australia,
07:47 --> 07:57 [SPEAKER_02]: And here's the story behind that in 1787, what was called the first fleet, left England with 1 people to Australia.
07:57 --> 08:03 [SPEAKER_02]: So this is like a colony shipment that our England is shipping down to Australia.
08:03 --> 08:10 [SPEAKER_02]: Now, I don't know about you, Troy, but I feel like in the elementary school playground.
08:12 --> 08:16 [SPEAKER_02]: the facts of the day where that Australia was made of a prisoner's back on the day.
08:16 --> 08:18 [SPEAKER_02]: Did you ever was that something you guys chatted about?
08:19 --> 08:29 [SPEAKER_01]: Well, yeah, and not only was it, but when we were in Australia, like what we went to, this big old prison fort thing, and they were like, yeah, this was pretty much the first building here in this city that we visited.
08:29 --> 08:32 [SPEAKER_01]: So, I think there's some cheers to that for sure.
08:32 --> 08:33 [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, so an England
08:34 --> 08:51 [SPEAKER_02]: That was the kind of their experiment with shipping prisoners to Australia as a way to get them away from an England But also I think they were trying to see it as more of a humanitarian thing to do rather than locking up in bad conditions You can kind of give them a new start to new life Just not here.
08:51 --> 09:02 [SPEAKER_02]: You've got to do it away from us So out of this first fleet that was sent to Australia Consisting of 1400 people 800 of them were convicted convicts and
09:02 --> 09:03 [SPEAKER_02]: And see 100?
09:03 --> 09:05 [SPEAKER_01]: Do you know what?
09:05 --> 09:05 [SPEAKER_01]: 1787.
09:05 --> 09:06 [SPEAKER_01]: Why did they?
09:06 --> 09:07 [SPEAKER_01]: Why did they do that in 1787?
09:08 --> 09:08 [SPEAKER_01]: Joel.
09:08 --> 09:09 [SPEAKER_01]: Because America.
09:09 --> 09:32 [SPEAKER_01]: that's right because they just lost the war with america and seventeen eighty three officially so within four years of three to four years they had to figure out okay well we don't have the american you know they still can't but they don't have the american resources and it was time to like start basically a new colony and so they they chose australia like okay we can't you know we can't keep doing what we've been doing over there let's pick a new spot to kind of start fresh and that was uh that became australia
09:33 --> 09:46 [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I mean, I completely agree, but also if you were to try to analyze every colonial on taking that England did in the 1980s, you'd have a lot of stories and a lot of this one.
09:46 --> 09:56 [SPEAKER_01]: This one was specifically, I mean, they're related to one of the other I agree, but I also agree that Britain had their hand and a lot of a lot of different pocket.
09:57 --> 09:59 [SPEAKER_01]: I don't know what, so there's some figures and pies.
10:00 --> 10:09 [SPEAKER_01]: A lot of, but then their pies are different than ours because in Britain like when I say apple pie it's sweet and when they would they have like their their beef pies and stuff So all right before we get off on British pies.
10:09 --> 10:10 [SPEAKER_01]: Let's get back to this.
10:10 --> 10:11 [SPEAKER_01]: They're pop pies.
10:11 --> 10:17 [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, they yeah We man we should do a revive conversation on different pies from different kinds
10:19 --> 10:35 [SPEAKER_02]: 800 of them were convict 600 of them were citizens preparing to help kind of establish new colony trying to get it up and running and there would be a few different ways to Australia on these settlement ships again this one was the first fleet that was headed that way.
10:35 --> 10:44 [SPEAKER_02]: William Wilburforce and John Newton were like key members of the English parliament group that were really
10:44 --> 11:08 [SPEAKER_02]: advocating and challenging the people in charge to get a chaplain to go with him like you need to find you need to get like a preacher someone that's solid spiritual leader that can go with this group you don't want to send him out without a spiritual leader and Richard Johnson's name got thrown in the hat and he was selected appointed for the job.
11:09 --> 11:15 [SPEAKER_02]: And so when Johnson realized that he was going to Australia, he decided he didn't want to go alone.
11:15 --> 11:23 [SPEAKER_02]: He wanted to go with a companion in a wife, and so it sounds like in a kind of speed dating scenario here.
11:23 --> 11:31 [SPEAKER_02]: He found a wife named Mary, and she would become the first free woman to enter Australia.
11:31 --> 11:37 [SPEAKER_02]: So the first woman that I guess wasn't a slave or prisoner to go to Australia.
11:39 --> 11:43 [SPEAKER_02]: Now, I mean, excluding, we might get some listener feedback.
11:43 --> 11:46 [SPEAKER_02]: Obviously, there's lots of indigenous people that live in Australia as well, that were there.
11:47 --> 11:47 [SPEAKER_02]: I had a thumb.
11:47 --> 11:48 [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
11:49 --> 11:51 [SPEAKER_01]: So, and I mean, there's more to it than that, I'm sure.
11:51 --> 11:55 [SPEAKER_01]: But she's at least, she has that surname, a little bit of fame there, of some kind.
11:56 --> 11:58 [SPEAKER_01]: Now, the Dutch had also been sailing around Australia.
11:58 --> 12:00 [SPEAKER_01]: As I mentioned to there, we saw many of their shipwrecks.
12:01 --> 12:02 [SPEAKER_01]: I sent a message to my friends.
12:02 --> 12:03 [SPEAKER_01]: I was like, hey, you know, who's from the Netherlands.
12:03 --> 12:04 [SPEAKER_01]: Okay.
12:04 --> 12:23 [SPEAKER_01]: So you guys, you know, sank a lot around Australia pretty cool, but they never took the time that really colonized that they focused more on Indonesia with all the stuff going on with America The Britain's getting in there starting to take down Australia, and this actually will lead to an event that almost led to a kind of not a world war, but a war will get to that a little while.
12:24 --> 12:36 [SPEAKER_01]: But this fleet going over one historian person, I don't know if it was a historian or a person living at the time, said it was this biggest single migration in history, because 1400 people going out today, 1400 people moving around, that's not a big deal.
12:37 --> 12:41 [SPEAKER_01]: But to give you an idea, the pilgrims on the Mayflower, that was a group of 100 people.
12:42 --> 12:59 [SPEAKER_01]: So 150 years later, we have 1 people coming into Australia that is a pretty significant shift in size and they all pretty much landed without crashing and they all pretty much landed safely.
12:59 --> 13:08 [SPEAKER_01]: Now that's not to say that nobody died about 60 people did die on the journey so when I say that they got by those standards and that sounds pretty bad because that's not good
13:12 --> 13:12 [SPEAKER_01]: pretty good.
13:13 --> 13:19 [SPEAKER_01]: And when they compare it to one of the later shipments, the very next group of people, this was a lot better, but we'll talk about that in a bit.
13:19 --> 13:22 [SPEAKER_01]: So all those ships arrived safely, considering they left England, things went pretty well.
13:22 --> 13:25 [SPEAKER_01]: And they all land within like one week or two weeks of each other.
13:25 --> 13:30 [SPEAKER_01]: So this is like an eight or nine month voyage, but they get within they all land within a week or two, which other pretty cool.
13:31 --> 13:47 [SPEAKER_01]: Within three weeks of them getting there, the very first Christian service is being conducted by Richard Johnson, a big open air service that still has a plaque to it to this day, recognizing it, and as the first British Christian service officially down there, it's possible a British ship may have passed by and as possible some Dutch people have done.
13:47 --> 13:51 [SPEAKER_01]: So we'll say it's the first Christian service in the song Australia, but it's the first official one for sure.
13:52 --> 13:57 [SPEAKER_01]: And a few years later, that spot's kind of turned into a church, and it would be where he would serve the colony that was being formed there.
13:58 --> 14:06 [SPEAKER_01]: We don't know what the sermon Johnson gave on that spot was exactly, but we do know the text he preached from was Psalm 116 verses 12 and 13.
14:06 --> 14:09 [SPEAKER_01]: It says, how can I repay the Lord for all his goodness to me?
14:09 --> 14:12 [SPEAKER_01]: I will lift up the cup of salvation and call on the name of the Lord.
14:13 --> 14:21 [SPEAKER_01]: And this is kind of an interesting juxtaposition because that's not how the people are feeling this, maybe to say, maybe that's exactly why you preach on it.
14:21 --> 14:22 [SPEAKER_01]: Like, hey, look at all the good things.
14:22 --> 14:24 [SPEAKER_01]: We all landed most of us got here safely.
14:24 --> 14:25 [SPEAKER_01]: It worked out pretty well.
14:26 --> 14:28 [SPEAKER_01]: But it was very, very tough voyage.
14:28 --> 14:30 [SPEAKER_01]: So pointing out that it went well is interesting.
14:30 --> 14:36 [SPEAKER_01]: Because one of the people wrote in their diary about the time, the land behind us was the home of civilized people.
14:36 --> 14:38 [SPEAKER_01]: The land before us, the land, home of savages.
14:38 --> 14:41 [SPEAKER_01]: And our communication with families and friends is now cut off.
14:41 --> 14:42 [SPEAKER_01]: We are leaving the world behind.
14:43 --> 14:44 [SPEAKER_01]: to enter a new place unknown.
14:45 --> 14:56 [SPEAKER_01]: If this was the state of new colonists as they're arriving, they're feeling a little bit dented by the challenge ahead of them and what's the store and what will happen to them in Australia.
14:56 --> 15:00 [SPEAKER_01]: And so here Richard Johnson is reminding them with this sermon that he preached a very first sermon.
15:00 --> 15:06 [SPEAKER_01]: Like we have so much to be grateful for how can I repay all the goodness to that God has done to us.
15:06 --> 15:08 [SPEAKER_01]: And that's exactly the mindset that he should be
15:11 --> 15:13 [SPEAKER_01]: Reaching these people right where they need to be reached.
15:14 --> 15:29 [SPEAKER_02]: You know when make a good revive conversation or maybe even like a full deep dive or like it's just a dedicated historical Analysis episode you have you have several boats that are going out in this fleet, right?
15:30 --> 15:40 [SPEAKER_02]: I don't know enough about naval transportation in this area to know like are they Incommunication with each other like how far are these boats away from each other?
15:40 --> 15:45 [SPEAKER_02]: Can you you can you can almost certainly see them right because they got to keep track of each other?
15:46 --> 15:49 [SPEAKER_02]: Are they close enough to where you can like yell to like do you have friends on the other boat?
15:49 --> 15:51 [SPEAKER_02]: Do you make friends on the other boats?
15:51 --> 16:02 [SPEAKER_02]: I can you yell out and be like Timmy or like pinpiles are there's like quarters that'll like that'll like use smaller boats to like Transport letters.
16:02 --> 16:04 [SPEAKER_02]: Can you write people on these other boats?
16:05 --> 16:07 [SPEAKER_02]: Because you're you're on this is an eight month journey.
16:08 --> 16:09 [SPEAKER_02]: You're traveling for eight months
16:10 --> 16:12 [SPEAKER_02]: You got no one else to talk to.
16:13 --> 16:16 [SPEAKER_02]: Surely, you're communicating with these other boats, right?
16:17 --> 16:22 [SPEAKER_01]: So I mean, you would think that they had, especially because I would imagine that they charted the course ahead of time.
16:23 --> 16:26 [SPEAKER_01]: They knew they had to have known where they would be going and stuff.
16:26 --> 16:29 [SPEAKER_01]: So I mean, let's say you're like, we're gonna stop at this port and enter this area.
16:30 --> 16:37 [SPEAKER_01]: Like you would imagine that they would interact with people and then the people ahead of you or behind you would probably be able to tell you like such and such vessel was coming by soon.
16:38 --> 16:56 [SPEAKER_01]: Now, I don't know about these boats, these boats leaving England for Australian the late 1700s, but I can tell you about the wailing ships, and what they used to do, because I read mobile data over the summer, and they have extensive chapters on wailing ships who would meet, and they would meet each other at sea, and they would have a very special, like, uh,
16:57 --> 17:17 [SPEAKER_01]: Oh gosh, what was the name it I'm going to Google it real quick with a very special name a game They'd have a game so these two shifts with me to see if they they would like the two captains could pull up and the captain Sometimes would go on the other boat and they'd have what's called a game where they would talk about Whether what they'd seen what they've been up to whether there were whales nearby how many whales have you call that kind of stuff and They'd pass the letters.
17:17 --> 17:25 [SPEAKER_01]: So if one boat had left The back in the mat, you know the back in the colony and not the colony back in Massachusetts say they like oh, hey, we have some letters for some of your guys
17:26 --> 17:42 [SPEAKER_01]: in the story movie deck again, not a real story, but based on many, many things because the guy did it, had actually done it, the letter, the only letter they had for the group was for a guy who'd already died, so they're like, well, that was kind of a waste of a letter, but the thing was like these games, and the interesting thing he said,
17:42 --> 18:05 [SPEAKER_01]: was that we were the only she said they were the only ships that did it like only wailing vessels had this particular thing most ships kind of just you know they they they they they'd wave to each other as they passed or if they were it whatever but the wailing ships loved to have a game and chat about what they've been up to so it was very unique among wailers to do this they had this little chat see and stuff and they could lead the games could lead the gambling it could lead all kinds of stuff or it could just be kind of a quick hey how you do them around our way kind of thing
18:06 --> 18:20 [SPEAKER_01]: Um, they said that he said even if they were of different like nationalities like if it was French English or German They would still have this even like no other you didn't know of any other boating people that would just meet on seeing chat except for the Whalers So that's my nautical knowledge for you on that so
18:24 --> 18:24 [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, that's right.
18:24 --> 18:29 [SPEAKER_01]: So the Whaleers were chit chatting, but it looks like most of the other people really weren't saying much to one another.
18:29 --> 18:34 [SPEAKER_01]: I mean, I haven't imagined that, hey, if there was something dangerous, you might get a warning from one ship to another.
18:34 --> 18:39 [SPEAKER_01]: It seems like for the most part, at least in the 1800s when that was being launched.
18:39 --> 18:40 [SPEAKER_01]: But he was in the same area.
18:40 --> 18:42 [SPEAKER_01]: He mentioned being chased by pirates and in Indonesia.
18:42 --> 18:46 [SPEAKER_01]: So very similar waters, but it looks like they wouldn't
18:50 --> 18:53 [SPEAKER_01]: all across the world at once, would they have met up and chat with each other?
18:53 --> 18:55 [SPEAKER_01]: The answer is maybe I'm not sure.
18:55 --> 19:04 [SPEAKER_01]: One more thing, I said the Mayflower only had 100 people on it, which is true it did, but the Puritan voyage that John Winthrop, which we have a sermon by, of course, you already know.
19:04 --> 19:08 [SPEAKER_01]: He brought over 700 Puritans, so that's half of what went to Australia, but it is a big number.
19:09 --> 19:16 [SPEAKER_01]: So I did want to add that note of just historical clarification that even though this is still one of the biggest one, this is the biggest one up into that point.
19:17 --> 19:20 [SPEAKER_01]: The Puritans had some pretty big numbers when they were going over to America.
19:20 --> 19:29 [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, there were, there were, so there were other, there had been other groups, but this was still the biggest one.
19:29 --> 19:30 [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, at least it seems.
19:30 --> 19:32 [SPEAKER_02]: The Mayflowers documented really well.
19:32 --> 19:36 [SPEAKER_02]: We needed to get into the diaries of those on the Mayflowers.
19:36 --> 19:38 [SPEAKER_02]: I forget the names of the other boats.
19:38 --> 19:43 [SPEAKER_02]: I do remember distinctly having to write them down in elementary school, and I have already forgotten them.
19:43 --> 19:49 [SPEAKER_01]: You forgot in the other half of the bears are you seriously googling over there?
19:49 --> 19:50 [SPEAKER_01]: I can hear you now.
19:50 --> 19:56 [SPEAKER_01]: I already had to hold up but I've lost a take on it and I've got to really show you up here if I could have kept those things.
19:56 --> 19:57 [SPEAKER_01]: They were silly names.
19:58 --> 19:59 [SPEAKER_01]: Is one called the speed well?
19:59 --> 20:00 [SPEAKER_01]: It looks like it might be.
20:00 --> 20:03 [SPEAKER_02]: Now gosh, that doesn't sound familiar on us.
20:03 --> 20:07 [SPEAKER_01]: The speed well, the Mayflower, and there's probably a third boat out there.
20:08 --> 20:11 [SPEAKER_02]: That would have been a bit of a bit of a bit of a different voyage that there was three.
20:13 --> 20:17 [SPEAKER_01]: 1492, Joel, Columbus, they'll be the ocean blue.
20:17 --> 20:19 [SPEAKER_01]: That's, that's, we're going to leave that for now.
20:20 --> 20:21 [SPEAKER_02]: I just find it.
20:22 --> 20:36 [SPEAKER_02]: Impossible that they weren't like doing sign language or something to the other boats unless they're just not nearly close enough like maybe they are they have to keep like a really long distance Someone listening knows More about this so please.
20:36 --> 20:47 [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, you know what I'll take it you if you know how these boats used to communicate some it's gonna be like probably some old Naval officer some old sea captain sea dog can tell us a little more we will
20:47 --> 21:04 [SPEAKER_01]: Read at least part of your email or something on you send the season to see info with these ships while while sailing across the sea Would they have talked to each other or like left some, you know Can meet with the fact that they didn't all land at the same time does make anything that they weren't necessarily together Yeah, just sticks on the wind.
21:04 --> 21:06 [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, maybe there's just every man for themselves and you try to get there
21:08 --> 21:08 [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
21:08 --> 21:10 [SPEAKER_02]: Okay, back to it.
21:10 --> 21:19 [SPEAKER_02]: Back to it, uh, 1400 people going down, uh, over an eight-month period, and over a eight-month period through like really rough seas.
21:19 --> 21:22 [SPEAKER_02]: This is not a lovely cruise voyage.
21:23 --> 21:26 [SPEAKER_02]: This you're getting pretty close to Arctic oceans.
21:26 --> 21:27 [SPEAKER_02]: You're getting pretty frigid.
21:28 --> 21:30 [SPEAKER_02]: So you've got these strong gales of wind.
21:30 --> 21:49 [SPEAKER_02]: You've got heavy seas cold weather There's a quote from someone on board that wrote that situations of everyone on board are truly uncomfortable So it sounds undesirable in the fact that pretty much everyone Survived almost everyone survived and
21:49 --> 21:51 [SPEAKER_02]: is nothing short of a miracle.
21:51 --> 21:56 [SPEAKER_02]: Other attempts, there was a couple of years later, where a second group of people came on a second fleet.
21:57 --> 22:00 [SPEAKER_02]: That one had a little over a thousand people.
22:00 --> 22:08 [SPEAKER_02]: 288 people died on the voyage with another 144 dying days after arriving in Australia.
22:09 --> 22:15 [SPEAKER_02]: It was 40% of their host that was lost and it was attributed to the harsh sailing conditions.
22:16 --> 22:24 [SPEAKER_02]: It's no easy trip, but in that first leg, that first attempt, that first fleet, they all got their relatively alive.
22:25 --> 22:34 [SPEAKER_02]: Johnson's wife, Mary, she almost died on the trip to Australia, and after they arrived, she almost died again while having a stillbirth.
22:34 --> 22:44 [SPEAKER_02]: But she survived through both of those instances after arriving, and after being there, for a couple years, the new family structure, the new,
22:45 --> 23:01 [SPEAKER_02]: A society began to take place because there was this smallpox outbreak that happened and a lot of people died from a colonists and convicts alike were all dying But worse again like with a lot of these situations the aboriginal people there are not
23:02 --> 23:17 [SPEAKER_02]: They don't have the immune system, and not familiar with these germs, and so 70% of the aboriginals would end up dying from this disease as well, and in the midst of all of this, there was a young aboriginal girl who, uh, sound like she survived, but, but,
23:17 --> 23:29 [SPEAKER_02]: presumably both of her parents died and she ended up at the house of Richard Johnson and his wife and it's unknown, you know, who dropped her off there?
23:30 --> 23:41 [SPEAKER_02]: The situations are rounded, but Richard Johnson's wife Mary brought her in and adopted her and her name was bullurong.
23:41 --> 23:42 [SPEAKER_02]: That's pronounced perfectly.
23:42 --> 23:43 [SPEAKER_02]: Don't bother looking it up.
23:44 --> 23:59 [SPEAKER_02]: and it became the first example of this cross-cultural, app original British relationship, but it also kind of paved the way for this friendship between the two people groups on record.
24:00 --> 24:01 [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, it's kind of funny to me in the historian.
24:01 --> 24:06 [SPEAKER_01]: She's like, this is the first cross-cultural Aboriginal British relationship friendship between women.
24:06 --> 24:11 [SPEAKER_01]: And I'm like, yeah, I don't think that, like, I don't think that that's what Mary Johnson was thinking.
24:11 --> 24:13 [SPEAKER_01]: She was like, oh, my opportunity to make history.
24:13 --> 24:16 [SPEAKER_01]: No, no, no, I think it was just like, oh, this woman, this girl needs help, let's help her out.
24:16 --> 24:19 [SPEAKER_01]: And, you know, here's a friend, the kind of thing.
24:19 --> 24:21 [SPEAKER_01]: I don't, I just, I, it's sometimes, I think, has, I get it.
24:22 --> 24:23 [SPEAKER_01]: They're looking for interesting stories.
24:23 --> 24:24 [SPEAKER_01]: So I, I get why they want to do it.
24:24 --> 24:26 [SPEAKER_01]: But to me, I think Mary just saw it.
24:26 --> 24:28 [SPEAKER_01]: Well, even if it wasn't her, I'm curious.
24:30 --> 24:32 [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I still need to be able to know.
24:32 --> 24:34 [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
24:34 --> 24:37 [SPEAKER_01]: Mary's desire to see the native children and the British born children get better education.
24:37 --> 24:44 [SPEAKER_01]: Let their desire to start a school, which it makes sense when you're starting a new colony, starting a new land, school is a huge thing you got to get up and going.
24:45 --> 25:04 [SPEAKER_01]: uh... the johnson's were already the unofficial library of australia because they brought forty two hundred books with them for the purpose of lending and educating which uh... i i i i i think that old sea vessels i think everybody's got their stuff on their where would you even put forty two hundred books i'm sure they had their ways of doing it but that's in the summer they keep dry too i just must have been at anyway
25:05 --> 25:09 [SPEAKER_01]: However, the governor of Australia didn't really like the Johnson's, and I didn't look into why.
25:09 --> 25:12 [SPEAKER_01]: I don't know what the tiff there was, but they got an issue.
25:12 --> 25:13 [SPEAKER_01]: So he didn't want them to build a church.
25:13 --> 25:14 [SPEAKER_01]: You didn't want them to build a library.
25:14 --> 25:27 [SPEAKER_01]: He went out of his way to kind of stop them, but eventually Richard made a happen, and they created a kind of mixed school building and church on Sundays, and then throughout the week, people could come and get schooling and education, stuff like that, and also room for the books.
25:27 --> 25:34 [SPEAKER_01]: So Johnson could continue lending out library, and this stuff makes total sense, but
25:34 --> 25:39 [SPEAKER_01]: And this is stuff that like any, you know, missionaries or people today, oftentimes some of the first things they get going as well.
25:40 --> 25:47 [SPEAKER_01]: But you had to remember unique to this field, as he's doing this with 800 contexts, like how many of them want to read.
25:47 --> 25:49 [SPEAKER_01]: And I'm like, look, these, I don't think they were all murderers.
25:49 --> 25:56 [SPEAKER_01]: I'm sure many of the many of them probably were, you know, I don't, but still like this is the kind of people he's, he's going to a tough place.
25:56 --> 25:58 [SPEAKER_01]: And he's going to bring the books in the school with him.
25:58 --> 26:02 [SPEAKER_01]: So I give him credit for the work he's doing.
26:02 --> 26:03 [SPEAKER_01]: I think it's pretty cool.
26:04 --> 26:24 [SPEAKER_01]: her when the second lead arrived the next chaplain and his wife kind of coming alongside the back come up uh mentioned specifically how kind Mary was to them one of the only surviving letters from that era is the chaplain's wife writing another letter talking about how great Mary had been to them and how they were so happy she was there kind of things that's nice a little testimony from history of their uh ministry and their work
26:25 --> 26:43 [SPEAKER_01]: now in 1793 the same year their school in church got going a strange visitor came to them and this kind of goes back to what i talked about the Spanish because uh... the Spanish sent a scientific and strategic survey basically like there's i think they were they i'm not gonna say they weren't but they were saying the excuse was we're doing some scientific research off the coast of australia
26:45 --> 26:58 [SPEAKER_01]: And I think they were, but I also think they were kind of looking in and going, oh no, it's Britain about the conquer, Australia, and should we this vanish kind of do something about this, you know, we already lost America to them, except for Florida at that point, I know they could technically gone over yet, but you know what I mean?
26:58 --> 27:06 [SPEAKER_01]: Like they already were losing colonies around the world, they were already having trouble, what do we, in the Philippines are right over there, and they're like, okay, we will lose that.
27:06 --> 27:11 [SPEAKER_01]: So they're trying to figure out what to do, and so they send this reconnaissance kind of mission over with the idea of
27:15 --> 27:24 [SPEAKER_01]: But when that happens, their fire, their chaplain, but the Catholic chaplain, the fire, he gets sick, and they don't know what to do with them.
27:24 --> 27:29 [SPEAKER_01]: So they bring him to these guys, and they put their sick fire in the care of the Johnson.
27:29 --> 27:33 [SPEAKER_01]: So this is a Catholic priest who's too sick to keep going.
27:33 --> 27:34 [SPEAKER_01]: The Spanish surveyers don't know what to do.
27:35 --> 27:37 [SPEAKER_01]: So they put him in the hands of this Protestant chaplain.
27:37 --> 27:37 [SPEAKER_01]: And
27:38 --> 27:56 [SPEAKER_01]: uh for the most part this was a peaceful expedition but we do know that later on like in the history books spanned did kind of create some plans out of fear the Philippines out of you know wanting to not lose against the British Empire which is on the rise and the Spanish Empire is on the decline here they did create some plans to invade Australia
27:57 --> 27:58 [SPEAKER_01]: but they went nowhere.
27:58 --> 28:03 [SPEAKER_01]: These were, you know, they were gameed it out and they realized probably that they weren't going to win those games.
28:03 --> 28:10 [SPEAKER_01]: So this was a real serious, both military and scientific expedition that Spanish went on, but it didn't end up panning out.
28:20 --> 28:27 [SPEAKER_02]: Yes, this fryer was taken care of by the Johnston's, despite them being somewhat enemies as it were.
28:27 --> 28:36 [SPEAKER_02]: The Catholic priest said of the Johnston, he said, they have a kindness, spirit of unity and a simplicity that were truly of the gospel.
28:37 --> 28:45 [SPEAKER_02]: Johnson ended up educating somewhere between 150 to 200 children and preaching there in Australia for about 15 years.
28:45 --> 28:57 [SPEAKER_02]: They eventually had to return to England in 1801 and although not being in Australia anymore, they did stay involved in the work of Australia from England throughout the rest of his life.
28:57 --> 29:03 [SPEAKER_02]: He helped get new chaplains to appointed and really advocate before Parliament there to make sure
29:07 --> 29:11 [SPEAKER_02]: The sermon that we're listening to now, we have because it was made into a tract.
29:12 --> 29:18 [SPEAKER_02]: He preached it, it was documented, it was made into a tract and circulated that way, and it found their way into our hands.
29:19 --> 29:22 [SPEAKER_02]: It was preached five years after they arrived in Australia.
29:37 --> 29:41 [SPEAKER_00]: I urge you brothers and sisters, listen carefully to this appeal.
29:41 --> 29:43 [SPEAKER_00]: Your souls are precious.
29:43 --> 29:45 [SPEAKER_00]: They are precious in the side of God.
29:45 --> 29:47 [SPEAKER_00]: They are precious to the Lord Jesus Christ.
29:48 --> 29:49 [SPEAKER_00]: They are precious to me.
29:49 --> 29:54 [SPEAKER_00]: Oh, how I wish you understood their value as clearly as God does.
29:54 --> 30:08 [SPEAKER_00]: We have now been together for almost five years, and during that time, I trust I have faithfully fulfilled my calling, remaining faithful to my God, to my conscience, and to your immoral souls.
30:08 --> 30:13 [SPEAKER_00]: I sincerely hope that my labor among you has not been vain.
30:14 --> 30:20 [SPEAKER_00]: I believe that some of you have been awakened to your foolishness, your sin and the danger you in.
30:21 --> 30:26 [SPEAKER_00]: You have honestly sought God's mercy and through Christ a mediator have found it.
30:27 --> 30:36 [SPEAKER_00]: You now come before God as one who has been reconciled to him, knowing that him as a merciful father and faithful friend.
30:37 --> 30:41 [SPEAKER_00]: And you demonstrate the reality of your conversion by living upright
30:44 --> 30:53 [SPEAKER_00]: But I must also confess my fear that those who have truly been convicted of sin turn to God and abandon their sin for ways are very few.
30:54 --> 30:59 [SPEAKER_00]: Is painfully clear that the vast majority of you remain unconcerned about the things of God.
31:00 --> 31:08 [SPEAKER_00]: The greatness of God, the Lord Jesus Christ, the Holy Spirit, death, judgment, eternity, heaven, and hell.
31:09 --> 31:12 [SPEAKER_00]: These are subjects that rarely, if ever, occupy your thoughts.
31:13 --> 31:23 [SPEAKER_00]: Instead, you spend day after day, week after week, month after month and year after year, living carelessly and without reverence to God.
31:24 --> 31:33 [SPEAKER_00]: This continues, even though you have repeatedly heard the plain, faithful and urgent warning that the wages of sin is death.
31:34 --> 31:37 [SPEAKER_00]: Without repentance, sin brings God's judgment.
31:37 --> 31:40 [SPEAKER_00]: He's curse and the eternal ruin of your soul.
31:42 --> 31:47 [SPEAKER_00]: I plead with you brothers, think carefully about what is contained in these two words,
31:51 --> 32:00 [SPEAKER_00]: So they should include everything any mortal soul could ever need or desire in order to experience perfect and everlasting happiness.
32:01 --> 32:08 [SPEAKER_00]: Damned nation, on the other hand, describes the darkest and the most dreadful fate that can be imagined.
32:09 --> 32:16 [SPEAKER_00]: Salvation will be the wonder of the angels and the eternal song and joy of the redeemed.
32:16 --> 32:24 [SPEAKER_00]: Damned nation will be the endless torment of the devil and of all who die without repenting of their sins.
32:24 --> 32:30 [SPEAKER_00]: Remember this as well, before long, one of these two eternal destinies will be yours.
32:30 --> 32:38 [SPEAKER_00]: You will inherit either everlasting joy beyond all understanding, or everlasting missot misery beyond all description.
32:39 --> 32:42 [SPEAKER_00]: our lives are passing away quickly.
32:42 --> 32:46 [SPEAKER_00]: Every day our time grows shorter, death draws steadily mirror.
32:47 --> 32:51 [SPEAKER_00]: Judgment is approaching and the judge himself stands at the door.
32:52 --> 32:53 [SPEAKER_00]: Just think about this.
32:53 --> 33:02 [SPEAKER_00]: The moment our final breath leaves us and the fragile threat of life is cut, our eternal destiny will be fixed forever.
33:02 --> 33:14 [SPEAKER_00]: We will either live with God, His angels, and His glorified saints in heaven, or we will dwell with the devil and His angels in the darkness and torment of hell.
33:15 --> 33:19 [SPEAKER_00]: For this reason, as I have already said, your souls are exceedingly precious.
33:20 --> 33:23 [SPEAKER_00]: Not just in God's sight, but also in mine.
33:23 --> 33:30 [SPEAKER_00]: My brothers, God is my witness that I deeply long for every one of you with the love of Christ Jesus.
33:31 --> 33:48 [SPEAKER_00]: Next to the salvation of my own children, nothing in this world is dearer to my heart than seeing my fellow human beings come to salvation, especially you, the people, God had us entrusted to my care, over whom I must one day give an account.
33:48 --> 33:54 [SPEAKER_00]: My dear friends of this heart felt, though, playing a pill should accomplish the deepest desire of my heart,
33:55 --> 34:06 [SPEAKER_00]: and the constant burden of my prayers, and if God should use it to bring even one soul to himself, then I will rejoice as one who has discovered a great treasure.
34:07 --> 34:16 [SPEAKER_00]: I ask you, if only this once, lift your hearts with my prayer, so Almighty God, the generous giver of every grace.
34:16 --> 34:22 [SPEAKER_00]: He alone can make this message, or any other means of grace effective.
34:23 --> 34:39 [SPEAKER_00]: If, in his abundant mercy, he is pleased to impress these truths upon your heart and bring you to saving faith, you will enjoy the blessings of that work throughout your life, in the hour of your death and for all eternity.
34:40 --> 34:47 [SPEAKER_00]: Oh, may the gracious spirit of the Lord open the eyes in the years of everyone who reads or hears these words.
34:48 --> 34:51 [SPEAKER_00]: May those who are spiritually asleep awaken.
34:51 --> 34:55 [SPEAKER_00]: May those who are spiritually dead be brought back to life.
34:55 --> 34:59 [SPEAKER_00]: May those who have wandered from God be brought back to Him.
34:59 --> 35:04 [SPEAKER_00]: May every person be stirred to consider what will become of them in the world to come.
35:05 --> 35:08 [SPEAKER_00]: The who among us can enjoy everlasting fire.
35:09 --> 35:12 [SPEAKER_00]: Yet that will be our destiny unless we repent.
35:12 --> 35:25 [SPEAKER_00]: May the Lord God grant each one of you repentance that leads to life so that you may live holy lives in this world and inherit everlasting joy in this world to come.
35:26 --> 35:34 [SPEAKER_00]: My brothers, I trust I can honestly say with a clear conscience that I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ.
35:35 --> 35:47 [SPEAKER_00]: It is my knowledge of this precious gospel and I hope my personal experience of its truth that sustains me whenever I feel ready to sink beneath the deep waters of life.
35:48 --> 35:59 [SPEAKER_00]: When I am nearly overwhelmed by the many daily trials, burdens, disappointments and hardships that come with this difficult life, it is the gospel that keeps me standing.
36:00 --> 36:08 [SPEAKER_00]: To know the gospel and to experience its truth and power is to find sweetness even in life's bitterness.
36:08 --> 36:14 [SPEAKER_00]: It turns my cross into comforts and my losses into blessings.
36:14 --> 36:25 [SPEAKER_00]: through it I am enabled to bear Christ's cross, not only with patience and humble submission, but at times with even joy and consolation.
36:25 --> 36:31 [SPEAKER_00]: Sometimes I strengthen my heart by reflecting on all the migratious Lord and Savior endured for me.
36:32 --> 36:43 [SPEAKER_00]: At other times I look forward with hope to the indescribable honour and joy that by God's grace I trust I will one day enjoy if ever in his presence.
36:44 --> 36:49 [SPEAKER_00]: It is my earnest desire to lead you my dear friends into the same saving knowledge of the gospel.
36:50 --> 36:55 [SPEAKER_00]: This is not merely my duty as a minister, but it is also my greatest joy.
36:55 --> 37:02 [SPEAKER_00]: More than anything else in this world I long to see you come to no Christ and His salvation.
37:03 --> 37:20 [SPEAKER_00]: I have often explained to you what I believe the gospel teachers, but because I fear and indeed know that many of you remain unfamiliar with its true message, despite all that you have heard, I want to explain it once more, as simply and as clearly as I can.
37:26 --> 37:32 [SPEAKER_00]: search the scriptures diligently, and determine whether what I teach agrees with God's Holy Word.
37:32 --> 37:36 [SPEAKER_00]: Then decide whether these truths ought to be believed or rejected.
37:37 --> 37:48 [SPEAKER_00]: As I understand it, the gospel in its fullest sense includes the whole revealed will of God, as recorded in the Holy Scriptures of both the old and the new Testaments.
37:49 --> 37:50 [SPEAKER_00]: This sacred book,
37:51 --> 37:59 [SPEAKER_00]: which we call the Bible tells us that humanity was originally created in a state of perfect purity and innocence.
38:00 --> 38:02 [SPEAKER_00]: God made mankind in his own image.
38:03 --> 38:04 [SPEAKER_00]: He created us upright.
38:05 --> 38:13 [SPEAKER_00]: Our minds, wills, desires, consciences, bodies, and souls were free from sin, guilt, and corruption.
38:14 --> 38:21 [SPEAKER_00]: As long as humanity remained in that condition, there was no pain, there was no suffering, and there was no death.
38:22 --> 38:25 [SPEAKER_00]: But mankind did not remain in that blessed state.
38:26 --> 38:29 [SPEAKER_00]: our first parents disobeyed their creator.
38:30 --> 38:39 [SPEAKER_00]: By sinning against God, they lost to the righteousness with which they had been created and became earthly, sinful and corrupted.
38:39 --> 38:42 [SPEAKER_00]: The same is true of all their descendants.
38:43 --> 38:48 [SPEAKER_00]: For as scripture asks, who can bring something clean out of something that is unclean?
38:49 --> 38:55 [SPEAKER_00]: Humanity today is the very opposite of what it was when God first created it.
38:56 --> 38:58 [SPEAKER_00]: our understanding has been darkened.
38:59 --> 39:02 [SPEAKER_00]: Apart from God's grace, we are spiritually blind.
39:03 --> 39:06 [SPEAKER_00]: Our sinful nature is hostile towards God.
39:07 --> 39:09 [SPEAKER_00]: Our conscience has been defiled.
39:10 --> 39:17 [SPEAKER_00]: Our hearts instead of loving God, our Creator and gracious provider have become consumed with the empty
39:18 --> 39:19 [SPEAKER_00]: and temporary things of this world.
39:20 --> 39:26 [SPEAKER_00]: Because of sin, our bodies have become mortal, subject to pain, sickness and death.
39:27 --> 39:35 [SPEAKER_00]: Our soul stand under God's righteous judgment, and under the curse pronounced against those who break His Holy Law.
39:36 --> 39:41 [SPEAKER_00]: All of this is contained within that Solomon in God gave in the Garden of Eden.
39:42 --> 39:44 [SPEAKER_00]: In the day that you eat of it, you will
39:46 --> 39:54 [SPEAKER_00]: As that sentence not already begun to be carried out, why is there so much ignorance of God and such widespread contempt for Him?
39:55 --> 40:05 [SPEAKER_00]: Why do people so eagerly chase after the passing pleasures and empty pursuits of this world while giving so little thought to their creator?
40:06 --> 40:17 [SPEAKER_00]: Where do I believe blasphemy, lying, theft, Sabbath-breaking, slander, and the countless other sins that fill our world come from?
40:18 --> 40:22 [SPEAKER_00]: Why do so many people suffer from disease, pain, and sorrow?
40:23 --> 40:28 [SPEAKER_00]: Why are so many people young and old alike taken away to death?
40:29 --> 40:37 [SPEAKER_00]: and why do those who witness these things so often fail to take them as warnings to prepare for their own final day?
40:37 --> 40:43 [SPEAKER_00]: My brothers, all these are underkniable signs that what scripture teaches us true.
40:44 --> 40:46 [SPEAKER_00]: We are fallen and guilty sinners.
40:47 --> 40:50 [SPEAKER_00]: These are the consequences of Adam's sin and disobedience.
40:51 --> 41:01 [SPEAKER_00]: left to ourselves the result would have been endless misery for both body and soul, not only for Adam, but also for every one of his descendants.
41:02 --> 41:07 [SPEAKER_00]: But thanks be to God, the gospel opens a door of hope for helpless sinners.
41:08 --> 41:12 [SPEAKER_00]: Immediately after the fall, God gave our first parents a gracious promise.
41:13 --> 41:17 [SPEAKER_00]: He declared that the offspring of the woman would crush the serpent's head.
41:21 --> 41:35 [SPEAKER_00]: At the appointed time he came into the world born of a woman so that through his perfect life he's suffering and his obedient death he might rescue fallen humanity from the ruin and misery brought about by sin.
41:36 --> 41:43 [SPEAKER_00]: This is the gospel that we as God's ministers and ambassadors have been commanded to proclaim.
41:44 --> 42:03 [SPEAKER_00]: It freely offers pardon to the guilty, cleansing to the default, healing to the spiritually sick, joy to the miserable light to those who sit in darkness, strength to the weak food to the spiritually hungry and even life to those who are dead in their sins.
42:05 --> 42:10 [SPEAKER_00]: All of these priceless blessings are the result of the death and saving work of Jesus Christ.
42:11 --> 42:16 [SPEAKER_00]: The great purpose of his coming into the world was to seek and to save those who are lost.
42:16 --> 42:24 [SPEAKER_00]: He came down from heaven so that he might bring us into those holy and joyful dwelling places above.
42:25 --> 42:29 [SPEAKER_00]: He endured the curse so that we might receive the blessing.
42:29 --> 42:33 [SPEAKER_00]: He bore the cross so that we might wear the crown.
42:33 --> 42:36 [SPEAKER_00]: He died so that we might live.
42:37 --> 42:40 [SPEAKER_00]: He, the righteous one, died for the unrighteous.
42:41 --> 42:43 [SPEAKER_00]: So that he might bring us to God.
42:44 --> 42:47 [SPEAKER_00]: These blessings become ours only through faith.
42:48 --> 42:52 [SPEAKER_00]: As Scripture says, God so love the world that He gave He's only begotten Son.
42:53 --> 42:59 [SPEAKER_00]: Why did He give Him that whoever believes in Him should not perish but to have everlasting life?
42:59 --> 43:03 [SPEAKER_00]: Likewise, whoever believes in Him is not condemned.
43:04 --> 43:11 [SPEAKER_00]: To the one who believes in him, who justifies the ungodly, his faith is countered as righteous.
43:12 --> 43:19 [SPEAKER_00]: My friends search the scriptures and you will find that this is the consistent message of the entire Bible.
43:20 --> 43:27 [SPEAKER_00]: I may also add that it is the teaching about church as expressed in its articles and homilies.
43:28 --> 43:32 [SPEAKER_00]: This act of believing is described in the scriptures in several different ways.
43:32 --> 43:39 [SPEAKER_00]: It's called coming to Christ, looking to Christ, trusting in Him, and trusting our burdens upon Him.
43:40 --> 43:46 [SPEAKER_00]: Remember this until we come to Christ, trust in Him, and cast their cares upon Him.
43:47 --> 43:51 [SPEAKER_00]: We have no share in the blessing that the gospel reveals and freely offers.
43:52 --> 44:03 [SPEAKER_00]: Those who have believed and continue to exercise faith in Christ, however, rejoice daily in the rich blessings that the gospel freely gives to guilty and perishing sinners.
44:03 --> 44:10 [SPEAKER_00]: The faith by which a sinner receives Christ and becomes a protector of all the blessings of the gospel is itself the gift of God.
44:11 --> 44:14 [SPEAKER_00]: worked in the heart by the Holy Spirit.
44:14 --> 44:18 [SPEAKER_00]: The Holy Spirit brings about an inward transformation of the soul.
44:19 --> 44:24 [SPEAKER_00]: Scripture calls this the new birth, regeneration or conversion.
44:24 --> 44:33 [SPEAKER_00]: Through this work, the Spirit enables sinners who have been convicted of their sins and misery to look to Jesus Christ and place their faith in Him.
44:34 --> 44:41 [SPEAKER_00]: but through repentance and faith how the gifts of God which none can obtain by any work on their own.
44:42 --> 44:54 [SPEAKER_00]: Yet we are encouraged and commanded to pray for them, all who, by God's grace, have believed in Christ and continued to live by faith in the Son of God, will be saved.
44:54 --> 44:59 [SPEAKER_00]: Those who canlessly neglect or willfully reject the gospel will be condemned,
45:03 --> 45:10 [SPEAKER_00]: remember that these are not merely my words, but they are the solemn words of the Lord Jesus Christ Himself.
45:11 --> 45:18 [SPEAKER_00]: Now is the time to receive the blessing revealed in the gospel and offered to you whenever it is preached.
45:19 --> 45:26 [SPEAKER_00]: Many people heard these gracious promises before we were born, and many more will hear of them after we are gone.
45:27 --> 45:29 [SPEAKER_00]: but right now is our moment.
45:29 --> 45:31 [SPEAKER_00]: Now is the accepted time.
45:31 --> 45:34 [SPEAKER_00]: Now is the day of salvation today.
45:35 --> 45:38 [SPEAKER_00]: For neither of us know whether we will leave to see tomorrow.
45:39 --> 45:43 [SPEAKER_00]: Today, if you hear his voice, do not harden your hearts.
45:43 --> 45:44 [SPEAKER_00]: My brothers.
45:45 --> 45:52 [SPEAKER_00]: It is your duty, your wisdom, and ultimately your greatest happiness to seek this salvation for yourselves.
45:52 --> 45:55 [SPEAKER_00]: No one else can do it for you, you must make it.
45:55 --> 46:00 [SPEAKER_00]: Your own heartfelt concern to make your calling and election sure.
46:00 --> 46:05 [SPEAKER_00]: Death will soon bring every offer to God's grace and mercy to an end.
46:06 --> 46:13 [SPEAKER_00]: Right now you, and especially you who hear these words, are being shown great kindness by God.
46:14 --> 46:17 [SPEAKER_00]: It is both my duty and my joy to proclaim the good news.
46:18 --> 46:19 [SPEAKER_00]: But to whom do I preach it?
46:21 --> 46:24 [SPEAKER_00]: Not to the dead, but to the living, and to you.
46:24 --> 46:27 [SPEAKER_00]: The message of salvation has been sent to you.
46:28 --> 46:37 [SPEAKER_00]: But if you continue to reject it and death overtakes you while you remain unprepared, it will then be too late to begin crying out for mercy.
46:38 --> 46:40 [SPEAKER_00]: Another day is also coming.
46:40 --> 46:47 [SPEAKER_00]: These mortal bodies, which will soon turn to dust, will be raised again, whether we are believers
46:51 --> 46:54 [SPEAKER_00]: We must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ.
46:54 --> 46:57 [SPEAKER_00]: The Lord Jesus will return in the clouds of heaven.
46:58 --> 47:01 [SPEAKER_00]: The last trumpet will sound, the grace will be opened.
47:02 --> 47:03 [SPEAKER_00]: The sea will give up its dead.
47:04 --> 47:17 [SPEAKER_00]: Every person who has ever lived from the beginning of the world until it's end will stand before him to be judged and to receive either award or punishment according to their deeds.
47:18 --> 47:21 [SPEAKER_00]: Listen carefully to the Apostle John's description of that day.
47:23 --> 47:32 [SPEAKER_00]: I saw the dead, great and small, standing before God, and books were opened, then another book was opened, which is the book of life.
47:33 --> 47:38 [SPEAKER_00]: And the dead were judged by what was written in the books, according to what they had done.
47:39 --> 47:42 [SPEAKER_00]: This is what scripture declares about that awesome day.
47:42 --> 47:52 [SPEAKER_00]: My friends, whatever you may think about these things now, or whatever you may think of me, for speaking to you so plainly, I must tell the truth.
47:52 --> 47:57 [SPEAKER_00]: Every blasphemous oath you have ever spoken, every lie you have ever told.
47:58 --> 48:17 [SPEAKER_00]: Every Lord's Day you have ever treated as an important, every act of social immorality, theft, or any other sin you have committed, yes, every wrong you have ever done, and every duty you have ever neglected is recorded in God's Book of Remembrance.
48:18 --> 48:24 [SPEAKER_00]: Unless you repent and believe the gospel, these things will be brought forward on the day of judgment.
48:24 --> 48:33 [SPEAKER_00]: You will also have to give an account for how you respond to the opportunities God gave you to seek him and receive his salvation.
48:34 --> 48:39 [SPEAKER_00]: If you neglect those opportunities, the Bible itself will testify against you.
48:40 --> 48:45 [SPEAKER_00]: Every faithful sermon you have ever heard will testify against you.
48:46 --> 49:00 [SPEAKER_00]: even the sermons you could have heard but chose to have a word because you neglected public worship of God will testify against you and sadly this very appeal which I give to you because I love you.
49:00 --> 49:12 [SPEAKER_00]: and desire the salvation of your soul and which you are hearing now or perhaps you have been trying to ignore me while I was speaking then stand as a witness against you.
49:13 --> 49:18 [SPEAKER_00]: The loving warnings, earnest pleas, prayers, and tears of godly parents.
49:19 --> 49:26 [SPEAKER_00]: The Council and Correction of Faithful Christian Friends, the warnings and appeals of faithful
49:28 --> 49:30 [SPEAKER_00]: all of them will testify against you.
49:31 --> 49:33 [SPEAKER_00]: My brothers, what more can I say?
49:33 --> 49:55 [SPEAKER_00]: The Lord of God, the gospel itself, the saints, the very sinners who believe while you refuse, the angels, your own conscience, the Holy Spirit, the Lord Jesus Christ, and finally, the great judge himself will all bear witness against you because you rejected the mercy and salvation that God
49:58 --> 50:03 [SPEAKER_00]: then all who have remained unguidly and unrepentant will stand before the judge.
50:04 --> 50:11 [SPEAKER_00]: Having been tried, found guilty and condemned, they will hear that dreadful final sentence.
50:12 --> 50:18 [SPEAKER_00]: Depart from me, you have accursed into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels.
50:18 --> 50:23 [SPEAKER_00]: Remember those who shared in your sin during this life will also share in your misery.
50:24 --> 50:35 [SPEAKER_00]: If anything could make that suffering even greater, it would be this, you and they will look back with regret upon the day you first encourage one another in sin.
50:36 --> 50:47 [SPEAKER_00]: Each will blame the other for contributing to their ruin of their soul, or think seriously about these things, and ask God to grant you repentance before it is too light.
50:47 --> 50:54 [SPEAKER_00]: At the same great day, the righteous will be openly declared innocent before the assembled world.
50:55 --> 51:03 [SPEAKER_00]: The judge will say to them, come, you who are blessed by my father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world.
51:04 --> 51:07 [SPEAKER_00]: Then the holy angels will lead them into their eternal home.
51:07 --> 51:30 [SPEAKER_00]: happy souls never again will they have any reason to weep or to mourn, never again will they struggle against sin or endure spiritual conflict, darkness, temptation, sorrow will be gone forever because sin which is the source of all their grief and conflict will have been completely removed.
51:30 --> 51:36 [SPEAKER_00]: God, their gracious father, and everlasting friend, will wipe every tear from their eyes.
51:36 --> 51:45 [SPEAKER_00]: The righteous, though often overlooked, misunderstood, mistreated in this life, will then shine like the sun in the kingdom of their father.
51:46 --> 51:56 [SPEAKER_00]: Scripture pictures them standing before God's throne, clothing white robes, holding palm branches, the symbols of victory, and for praising their Redeemer.
51:57 --> 52:14 [SPEAKER_00]: There they will enjoy fellowship with Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, with the apostles, with the prophets and the martyrs, with believing family members and friends who have gone before them, and with the glorious company of the angels.
52:15 --> 52:20 [SPEAKER_00]: but above all, and without this, heaven itself would not truly be heaven.
52:21 --> 52:29 [SPEAKER_00]: They will enjoy the unhindered presence of their Lord and Savior, the one who suffered shame, pain and death from.
52:29 --> 52:33 [SPEAKER_00]: They will behold him seated upon his glorious throne.
52:33 --> 52:50 [SPEAKER_00]: and join with all the hosts of heaven in getting him salvation, glory, honor and praise to him who loved them, washed them from their sins by his own blood, made them a kingdom of priests to serve God forever.
52:50 --> 52:54 [SPEAKER_00]: The joys of heaven and the punishment of hell are both eternal.
52:55 --> 53:00 [SPEAKER_00]: If they were not, need a perfect happiness, nor complete misery could truly exist.
53:01 --> 53:06 [SPEAKER_00]: the joy of heaven would always be diminished if the redeemed feared it might someday end.
53:07 --> 53:15 [SPEAKER_00]: Likewise, the suffering of the wicked would be lessened if they remained even the faintest hope that one day it would cease.
53:16 --> 53:24 [SPEAKER_00]: But God's Word assures us that believers enter into eternal life, while the punishment of the wicked is everlasting.
53:24 --> 53:30 [SPEAKER_00]: I have now given you a summary of the great truths that is a minister of the gospel.
53:30 --> 53:32 [SPEAKER_00]: I have been called and commanded to preach.
53:33 --> 53:42 [SPEAKER_00]: I can call upon both God and your own conscience as witness that I have not failed to declare to you the whole Council of God.
53:42 --> 53:47 [SPEAKER_00]: A gain and a gain I've explained these truths and urge you to take them seriously.
53:48 --> 54:03 [SPEAKER_00]: I have shown you the desperate condition of sinners, the necessity of conversion and the nature of that change, the power by which God accomplishes it and the fruit to produce in a person's heart, words, actions, and deeds.
54:04 --> 54:09 [SPEAKER_00]: I have also shown you that the only way by which anyone can be saved.
54:10 --> 54:23 [SPEAKER_00]: Time after time, I have told you that Christ is the way, the truth and the life, and that no one can come to God with confidence, either in this life or the next, except through him.
54:24 --> 54:26 [SPEAKER_00]: Christ himself has said so.
54:26 --> 54:34 [SPEAKER_00]: The apostles likewise declare that there is no other name under heaven, given among men, by which we must be saved.
54:34 --> 54:37 [SPEAKER_00]: A look to Christ and you will be saved.
54:38 --> 54:40 [SPEAKER_00]: If you refuse him, you will stand condemned.
54:41 --> 54:46 [SPEAKER_00]: This is the plain teaching and the un-nestakeable declaration of Scripture.
54:46 --> 54:49 [SPEAKER_00]: Life and death are set before you.
54:50 --> 54:56 [SPEAKER_00]: Permit me then, as your minister, your friend and the one who sincerely seeks the good of your souls.
54:56 --> 55:02 [SPEAKER_00]: to press these serious and weighty truths upon your conscience one final time.
55:02 --> 55:10 [SPEAKER_00]: I trust that I have presented nothing that cannot be supported by the highest authority, that is the living word of God.
55:11 --> 55:22 [SPEAKER_00]: These truths deserve your utmost careful attention, because it is beyond question that your eternal happiness or eternal misery depends upon how you respond to this gospel.
55:23 --> 55:29 [SPEAKER_00]: whether you know it or not or remain ignorant of it, whether you receive it or reject it.
55:29 --> 55:34 [SPEAKER_00]: My brothers are not asking you what religious denomination you belong to.
55:35 --> 55:44 [SPEAKER_00]: Indeed, if I may judge, by the way, of many of how you live, I feel it too many will have little concern for religion at all.
55:44 --> 55:56 [SPEAKER_00]: I do not address you as members of one church or another, whether you are Anglican or the centre, Roman Catholic or Protestant, due or Gentile.
55:56 --> 56:00 [SPEAKER_00]: I know there are people from many different backgrounds among you.
56:00 --> 56:01 [SPEAKER_00]: Instead, I
56:04 --> 56:10 [SPEAKER_00]: and as rational humans, whom God had created, with minds capable of understanding truth.
56:11 --> 56:16 [SPEAKER_00]: I speak to you as people who are mortal and yet those souls will live forever.
56:17 --> 56:23 [SPEAKER_00]: I speak to you as sinners who have broken God's law and therefore stand under his righteous judgment.
56:24 --> 56:25 [SPEAKER_00]: My one desire.
56:26 --> 56:36 [SPEAKER_00]: is to be used by God to turn you from darkness to light, from sin to holiness, and from the power of Satan to the service and favor of God.
56:37 --> 56:43 [SPEAKER_00]: Therefore I urge you above all else to seek a share in the blessings of the gospel.
56:44 --> 56:51 [SPEAKER_00]: be assured that it matters far less whether you are rich or poor on all the spies in this world.
56:51 --> 56:58 [SPEAKER_00]: The rich have their own fears, anxieties, burdens and sorrows, just as surely as the poor.
56:59 --> 57:05 [SPEAKER_00]: And even if the wealth could make life easier, which it often cannot, it can never prevent death.
57:05 --> 57:10 [SPEAKER_00]: The great question is not whether we will die, but how we will die.
57:11 --> 57:16 [SPEAKER_00]: as believers or unbelievers, as saints or as sinners.
57:18 --> 57:22 [SPEAKER_00]: Our Lord declared that one soul is worth more than the whole world.
57:22 --> 57:25 [SPEAKER_00]: If you lose your soul, you lose everything.
57:26 --> 57:29 [SPEAKER_00]: you lose heaven and it's everlasting joy.
57:29 --> 57:42 [SPEAKER_00]: Therefore whatever else you may do or fail to do for God's sake and for the sake of your own soul do not neglect the concerns of eternity for another day or even another hour delay is dangerous.
57:43 --> 57:49 [SPEAKER_00]: The greater the treasure we stand to lose, the greater the foolishness if we postpone securing it.
57:50 --> 57:55 [SPEAKER_00]: We would never knowingly delay protecting our positions if we believed they were in immediate danger.
57:56 --> 58:00 [SPEAKER_00]: How much more urgent than is the salvation of our souls?
58:00 --> 58:15 [SPEAKER_00]: What fully indeed, what madness it is to carelessly postpone the concerns of eternity while choosing the passing pleasures of temporary life over heaven and the favor of God.
58:16 --> 58:23 [SPEAKER_00]: Let the powerble of the rich man who can graduate himself on having stored up enough for many, many years' service a warning.
58:24 --> 58:26 [SPEAKER_00]: That very night God required his soul.
58:27 --> 58:36 [SPEAKER_00]: People like this may consider themselves to be wise today, but before long they will discover that they were fools.
58:37 --> 58:47 [SPEAKER_00]: If you consider the immeasurable price that was prepared for our redemption, you must conclude that the human soul is exceedingly precious in God's sight.
58:48 --> 58:52 [SPEAKER_00]: and that sin is far more serious than many of you imagine.
58:53 --> 59:00 [SPEAKER_00]: To disobey the commands of the Holy and righteous God is as far as we are able to reject His authority over us.
59:01 --> 59:07 [SPEAKER_00]: Deny our dependence upon Him and side with the devil and rebellion against our Creator.
59:08 --> 59:12 [SPEAKER_00]: In plain terms, it is the defy God himself.
59:13 --> 59:22 [SPEAKER_00]: Sin is such a dreadful evil, then unless it is forgiven and washed away by the blood of Jesus Christ, it will drag the soul down into the depths of hell.
59:23 --> 59:25 [SPEAKER_00]: From which it will never ever rise again.
59:26 --> 59:34 [SPEAKER_00]: So offensive is sin in the side of God that rather than leave it unpunished, he chose to punish it in the person of his own beloved son.
59:35 --> 59:37 [SPEAKER_00]: Christ was made sin for us.
59:38 --> 59:42 [SPEAKER_00]: That is, he was treated as a guilty sinner, deserved to be treated.
59:43 --> 59:59 [SPEAKER_00]: He was handed over to wicked men and crucified so that through his suffering and death he might make a torment for our sins and bring about a righteous and gracious reconciliation between a holy God and guilty sinners.
01:00:00 --> 01:00:08 [SPEAKER_00]: Therefore, I urge you to treasure this gospel and to study it diligently, so that you may experience more and more of its blessings.
01:00:09 --> 01:00:14 [SPEAKER_00]: Praise God for such a shape, Savior, and for such a salvation.
01:00:14 --> 01:00:21 [SPEAKER_00]: Worship him for the infinite wisdom and boundless mercy he has displayed in redeeming fallen humanity.
01:00:22 --> 01:00:33 [SPEAKER_00]: and never be content until you have solid biblical reason to hope that this saviour is truly yours together with all the blessings he freely gives to those who come to him.
01:00:34 --> 01:00:39 [SPEAKER_00]: My brothers, food nourishes us when we are eat and digest it.
01:00:40 --> 01:00:41 [SPEAKER_00]: Medicines benefit us.
01:00:42 --> 01:00:44 [SPEAKER_00]: only when we actually take it.
01:00:44 --> 01:00:46 [SPEAKER_00]: The same is true of the gospel.
01:00:47 --> 01:00:48 [SPEAKER_00]: We may hear these truths.
01:00:49 --> 01:01:02 [SPEAKER_00]: We may even speak about them, but as long as they remain merely ideas in our minds and never reach our hearts, never become the very full life of our souls, they can do us no good.
01:01:03 --> 01:01:04 [SPEAKER_00]: Christ is the bread of life.
01:01:05 --> 01:01:06 [SPEAKER_00]: His flesh is true food.
01:01:06 --> 01:01:08 [SPEAKER_00]: His blood is true drink.
01:01:09 --> 01:01:20 [SPEAKER_00]: But unless we ourselves spiritually feed upon the Son of Man, for our Lord is speaking of nourishment for the soul, not the body, we have no spiritual life within us.
01:01:20 --> 01:01:28 [SPEAKER_00]: Consider also the bronze serpent that Moses at God's command lifted up in the sight of the people of Israel.
01:01:29 --> 01:01:41 [SPEAKER_00]: Those who had been bitten by the poisonous serpents were commanded to look at the bronze serpent, everyone who obeyed was healed, those who refused died.
01:01:41 --> 01:01:45 [SPEAKER_00]: for no other remedy and no physician could save them.
01:01:46 --> 01:01:55 [SPEAKER_00]: In the same way Jesus Christ once lifted up upon the cross is now held before us through the preaching of the gospel.
01:01:55 --> 01:02:04 [SPEAKER_00]: Those who souls have been wounded and poisoned by sin are invited, they are urged and encouraged and commanded to look to Him.
01:02:05 --> 01:02:32 [SPEAKER_00]: everyone who does so is completely healed of the spiritual disease under which they have long suffered, but those who despise or reject this gracious remedy that God himself has provided whether through complete indifference to the things of God or by seeking salvation in some other way will justifiably be left to perish in their own stubborn unbelief.
01:02:42 --> 01:02:44 [SPEAKER_01]: I think this sermon is a beautiful sermon.
01:02:44 --> 01:02:49 [SPEAKER_01]: It really just, you can see his heart is desire to see his people come to Christ to love the Lord.
01:02:50 --> 01:02:52 [SPEAKER_01]: You can see his message to them reaching out.
01:02:52 --> 01:02:54 [SPEAKER_01]: They've been in Australia for five years.
01:02:54 --> 01:02:56 [SPEAKER_01]: Many of them would have remembered him from the ship.
01:02:57 --> 01:03:01 [SPEAKER_01]: And as they're kind of scattering out, it's kind of making their own way, finding their own land, doing their own thing.
01:03:02 --> 01:03:08 [SPEAKER_01]: You to see this, the heart of this man to serve his people as new boats are showing up with new people.
01:03:08 --> 01:03:10 [SPEAKER_01]: They don't necessarily know the way things have been.
01:03:11 --> 01:03:13 [SPEAKER_01]: They weren't there in those early days of the journey.
01:03:13 --> 01:03:19 [SPEAKER_01]: You can just see, I think, Johnson's heart just to bring these people to the Lord, to continue serving.
01:03:20 --> 01:03:24 [SPEAKER_01]: After five probably pretty tough years of, I mean, they went through the smallpox outbreak.
01:03:24 --> 01:03:31 [SPEAKER_01]: They went through all these different things that they've been going through for five years, and he's still just deeply desiring to see the people of Australia.
01:03:31 --> 01:03:34 [SPEAKER_01]: This new colony, these new people there, serving the Lord.
01:03:34 --> 01:03:36 [SPEAKER_01]: And I just think, you know, John Newton,
01:03:37 --> 01:03:49 [SPEAKER_01]: And William, before it's both people we feature in the show, prominently many times, who had such a big impact on what a great thing that they serve the Lord faithfully and because they did, they were able to appoint Richard Johnson who serves the Lord faithfully.
01:03:49 --> 01:03:51 [SPEAKER_01]: And it's just a beautiful picture of what can be.
01:03:52 --> 01:03:58 [SPEAKER_01]: And I just think, yeah, I just think, man, that's the kind of person you want at the start of things is what Richard is doing.
01:03:58 --> 01:04:00 [SPEAKER_01]: And in no, maybe in your life you're going, okay, I'm not starting.
01:04:01 --> 01:04:18 [SPEAKER_01]: Ministry to a colony or something like that of course you're probably I don't think anybody is because I don't think we do call in these anymore But You any anybody's in the process of studying a mystery is gained to that part where things are hard or things are no longer new and you're one I hope you're having the same heart to serve your people.
01:04:18 --> 01:04:30 [SPEAKER_01]: I hope whatever it is you're doing for the Lord whether it's that Sunday school Whether it's pastoring whether it's whatever it is God has got you doing I pray that you're still you're still just as much in the heart place five years into it as Richard Johnson is
01:04:42 --> 01:04:45 [SPEAKER_02]: Thanks for listening to today's episode of Revived.
01:04:45 --> 01:04:49 [SPEAKER_02]: Today's sermon was narrated by Lee Ridge, big thanks to Lee Ridge.
01:04:49 --> 01:04:52 [SPEAKER_02]: He's read a few for us and you know, he's Australian.
01:04:53 --> 01:04:53 [SPEAKER_01]: Right?
01:04:53 --> 01:04:55 [SPEAKER_01]: Yes, Lee Ridge also, he reached out to us years ago.
01:04:56 --> 01:05:00 [SPEAKER_01]: He probably would have maybe noticed by the accent, but he is also from Australia as well.
01:05:00 --> 01:05:01 [SPEAKER_01]: Don't want to give them all the way out.
01:05:02 --> 01:05:06 [SPEAKER_01]: I always am never sure how much I'm supposed to say about somebody and what they're doing, but he's a pretty cool guy.
01:05:06 --> 01:05:10 [SPEAKER_01]: And we're really grateful for Lee Ridge's help throughout the years on different episodes.
01:05:10 --> 01:05:13 [SPEAKER_01]: So thank you Lee for reading this sermon for us.
01:05:13 --> 01:05:15 [SPEAKER_01]: And for the many sermons he's done, he's done.
01:05:15 --> 01:05:17 [SPEAKER_01]: He did a recent George Mueller sermon for us.
01:05:17 --> 01:05:17 [SPEAKER_01]: He did a
01:05:18 --> 01:05:39 [SPEAKER_01]: uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh
